David Lynch: The Art Life (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

Great insight into the legend David Lynch. A must have for superfans. Miss him!

Beautiful documentary on David Lynch, a true creative genius. His upbringing is well documented as well as where his inspiration comes from. It also covers his early shorts leading up to his first full length feature Eraserhead. Beautiful insight, and very inspiring, not only for David Lynch fans, but for artists in general. Highly recommended!

First, you have to be a David Lynch fan to get anything out of this. It’s mostly David talking about his life, with some minimal supportive visuals. One thing that always impressed me is how the body of his work contrasted so dramatically with the man’s plainspokenness. I wish there would have been a ‘part II’, because this monologue takes us from David’s (happy) childhood up to his ‘struggling artist’ years, and ends at the life events that allowed him to make Eraserhead. Too Short. 😊

I've been amassing his whole catalog on Criterion Editions whenever possible but finding his shorts and other works is just amazing!

Great documentary about a great artist & storyteller. Lynch is fairly guarded about some elements of his private life as most celebrities are. This documentary gives you a look at the man himself, in his own words, & his work. He tells stories about his life from childhood up to his early films all the while, we get to see him paint & interact with his youngest child. This is a man that takes joy in the simple pleasures of life. When all is said and done he remains somewhat of a mystery much like his films. That isn't a bad thing either.

I learned about one of my heroes, some of what he went through to become who he is today. His painting is something I knew very little about but enjoyed learning and watching David Lynch in a different setting. This movie is well done.

There are some glimpses into David Lynch's mind and work process here. Especially telling is the poignant scene in which he talks about his childhood and the last day his family spent in their neighborhood before moving away. It is one of the very rare glimpses into his past and how it shaped him. I enjoyed seeing inside his home art studio and how he creates things. I just hope he never loses his balance getting up there!

Fascinating to learn more about David Lynch, his life and art process. I quite enjoyed this and like his movies and shows, I will enjoy watching it over and over again!

Excelente documento de la faceta pictórica del director de Twin Peaks. Un retrato íntimo y por demás interesante del proceso que lo llevó al arte de la cinematografía.

A stellar documentary told in the first person about the wonderful and strange artist that is David lynch. A zillion of his paintings are shown alongside his storytelling recounting his early years as a budding painter (it only shows a bit about his entry into the film world.) We get to see him in his painting studio environment, where we see him reflect and conjure ideas (and perhaps in the midst of non verbal communications?). Highly recommended.
