The NEEWER Metal Phone Tripod Mount (SP-02) is fantastic in many ways. It’s well designed, and easy and comfortable to use. It’s well-built, strong, and durable, yet relatively compact and sleek. My iPhone 16 Pro in its Otter Box fits easily and securely. It’s adjustable through a wide range of positions and can then be secured by tightening a couple knobs that are easy and comfortable to grip. It’s so good that in the past year I’ve bought four of them. It’s not cheap, but given its quality, it’s an excellent buy.

The NEEWER metal phone mount is like giving my iPhone its own VIP throne. Sturdy, sleek, and built like it could survive a drop-kick, this thing holds my phone tighter than I hold my coffee in the morning. The 360° swivel and 180° tilt are smooth as butter—perfect for switching from portrait to landscape without doing phone yoga. Add in the Arca QR base and I’m snapping it onto my tripod faster than a paparazzi catching a celeb. The cold shoe on top is the cherry on the sundae—mic, light, whatever—I can build a mini production rig in seconds. Compatibility is spot-on. My iPhone 15 Pro Max fits like a glove, and I tested it with a friend’s Galaxy S24—same story. No wiggle, no wobble, just rock-solid stability. In short: tough, versatile, and way more pro than your average plastic phone clip. The NEEWER mount makes my phone feel like it just leveled up into a full-on cinema camera. If James Cameron shot TikToks, I bet he’d use this.

This NEEWER phone tripod mount is very nicely manufactured. It is all machined aluminum, all parts move and operate smoothly. The lock lever for the phone holding potion is very secure and easy to use.

However, there is an important aspect that I hope will be improved. The effective jaw depth is only 0.5 inch (~1.27 cm), from the top of the rubbery clamp pad down to the rubber pad on the base of the clamp. The thickness of the Otterbox case for my Pixel 5a 5G also is 0.5 inch, at the only practical area on the case that avoids the phone's side buttons and lenses. The top of the case is slightly beveled, reducing its effective thickness; therefore, the mount can be used. Unfortunately, there is not enough safety margin. If the phone is clamped with a reasonable amount of force, so the phone won't be crushed, it is not difficult to twist the phone out of the clamp. If the phone is bumped a few times, it could fall out of the clamp. Without the Otterbox case, my phone sits farther down in the clamp, where my phone is held securely and without much freedom to wiggle -- but of course, I want my phone to remain in its case. I think the height of the jaws and jaw pads should be increased by at least 0.1 inch (0.25 cm). Maybe the clamp width could be increased from 1 inch to 1.25 inches (2.5 to 3.2 cm). The jaw pads should have higher friction, and the pad width should cover the entire jaw width, to prevent the phone from working out of the clamp jaws. The corners of the jaw pads should be more rectangular than round, to maximize the contact area and resistance to bumping. The rubber pad on the base should extend farther along the base. Maybe the design goal was to advertise a maximum phone width of 4.0 inches, but I think that is much less important than extra security. (I am thinking about how to add an aluminum lip above each jaw; I just need a precision drill press and a tap ...) One side of the pivot (knuckle) that holds the folding foot extension is slightly too close to the bottom of the foot. This isn't a problem when using the folding foot for increased stability without a tripod. I don't know if there could be a minor problem when using an Arca-type clamp. There is no perceptible play (slop) in the pivot, which is good. Except as mentioned above, the Neewer mount is excellent, well made, sturdy, versatile, and attractive. There is a 1/4" threaded hole in the head of the clamp screw, and a cold shoe and 1/4" threaded hole in the Arca-type end of the clamp. (The Ulanzi ST-14 appears to have the same effective jaw height as the Neewer, but slightly wider rubber jaw pads. The Ulanzi has no 1/4" threaded hole in the clamp screw, and I see no indication that the Arca-type end of the clamp includes any 1/4" threaded hole.)

As soon as you pull it out of the box, feel it, twist one knob or swivel one part - you know this thing is WELL MADE. I was giddy after playing with it for 10 seconds - not the first time I’ve uttered those words. Surely there is a German behind this quality of build? I don’t know… but more than just “every part moves as it should”, it moves better than it should. It’s metal, has some light weight to it and is perfectly engineered. They even have two size of tripod holes on the mounting plate. Kudos to whomever designed this! Thank you! Would absolutely buy this again! Going to Scotland in a month and this is perfect!

My DSLR gets used a few times a year to take family pictures around the holidays. However, everyone also wants iPhone pictures they can immediately post and share. This phone mount works great with the DSLR tripod I already have out, and when paired with a cheap bluetooth remote for the phone (or an iWatch) I can quickly switch between camera and phone. I'm sure there are likely cheaper mounts out there, but this one - is all metal, - has good adjustability - has large thumbscrews - fits standard quick-release tripod mounts (or 1/4 and 5/8 screw mounts if you don't have quick release) - includes a simple "kickstand" on the back to hold the phone on a desktop. I had no issues getting a secure grip on my iPhone 15 in a regular bumper case. You may have to offset it slightly to avoid pressing buttons, but this isn't a problem. The kickstand is a bit narrow. Flipped forward the phone can sit upright, flipped back it can be angled up. If you're buying it primarily to use the desktop feature, there are better options but it is a nice +1 feature. All in all, I would definitely purchase again.

Decent smartphone holder and tripod adapter. It is made from plastic, so be careful not to force it or tighten the screws too much. Otherwise, the holder has a flexible design: it works in both portrait and landscape mode. The simplest mount uses only the holder part (the rotating support removed) screwed on the tripod head. A mini-tripod is the easiest option for desktop operation. For maximum flexibility, use the Neewer Z-Flex Tilt head as suggested in the photos (shown here in desktop operation). This is the second holder I purchased (the other one was for a friend). Recommended for vlogging, teleconferences, etc.
