Easy Installation, Satisfaction Guaranteed!
I’ve been using Foscam cameras for many years now and I have always been pleased with the resulting pictures and videos that they have given me. Recently I decided to extend coverage of an outdoor area in my back yard, so I added this Foscam V8EP 8mp camera to my home security system. After receiving it I used the Foscam app on my Android phone to complete the initial setup, which is quite easy to do. Before installing it outdoors, I tested it as an interior camera so I could compare the V8EP’s output with other Foscam cameras in my network. I obviously expected to see some improvement in picture quality because my other cameras are older, but I can honestly say I was more than pleasantly surprised at how much improvement I saw in comparison. After testing indoors for a couple of days, I moved my V8EP to the outdoors area that I wanted to cover. Due to its POE feature, installation was easy for me because I do not have an exterior power source readily available in the immediate area. I have deer and other types of wildlife crossing through my yard at night so I don’t use the siren, but I certainly use the built-in spotlight feature of this camera so I can capture what is moving around out there! Settings in this camera allow me to push alerts directly to my phone and also give me an option to send emails to whomever I choose for up to four email addresses. Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not as knowledgeable in the technical aspects of camera architecture as I’d like to be. However, by following out-of-the-box directions in the Foscam app on my Android phone and scanning the QR code, initial setup of this V8EP POE camera was fast and easy to do – even for me. I also added this camera to my laptop’s Foscam VMS account and did some “fine tuning” for motion detection alerts. The settings throughout VMS are mostly intuitive which eliminates a lot of frustration. They also allow a variety of options like toggling detection on or off, adjusting detection sensitivity, setting trigger and snap intervals, etc. I can even set the overall size of the detection area to reduce the potential for false alarms! In other words, this V8EP camera has more built-in flexibility than I expected. End result – this V8EP is a top-notch camera in my book and I am totally pleased with the detail, clarity and color of its pictures and videos! So now, when I consider the overall quality of this camera and combine that with all the flexibility of settings that I just mentioned, I have no problem at all with highly recommending this V8EP to anyone that is looking for a user-friendly, easy to install camera to compliment their home surveillance system.

Great Camera
I have owned many different Foscam cameras over the years. This camera is a 2.4Ghz camera only and POE with the option to power by an unsupplied power supply, no Wi-Fi. This is the first POE camera I have owned. My house is too difficult to run ethernet lines to all my cameras so I have always used Wi-Fi cameras. I was offered to test this camera and decided to give it a go. I had an extra power supply and a range extender with an ethernet port so I connected the camera to the ethernet port and it connects to the wireless network through the Wi-Fi extender. The camera has a very sturdy body and can be mounted in multiple positions. I do recommend using longer screws than the ones provided if mounted outdoors to help deter theft of the camera. It is very easy to setup using the Foscam app. However I prefer not to use third party software for my camera system so I used the Foscam VMS software for Windows 11 and made a Local Account to sign in. The night vision is very clear as it is a 4K camera. Because I have a street light in front of my house I was able to turn off the IR lights and have very good color night video. Overall I love the Foscam cameras. They allow me to set up monitoring and store the video locally or through a FTP server. I highly recommend this camera particularly if you have a POE network but a welcome addition if you have an extender with an ethernet port as I did.

Nora Chau was professional and responsive
Nora Chau's technical knowledge in his field has been a significant asset in resolving my issue. My V8EP 8MP Home Security Surveillance Camera IR LEDs stopped working. Nora Chau responded quick with a few questions directly related to the IR LED operation / function. I replayed to his questions and he determined that the resolution was to replace my camera. The replacement V8EP 8MP is working correctly. The 4 stars was for the V8EP 8MP failing within a year. Nora Chau deserves 5 stars for his assistance.

The camera is willing, but the app is weak.
I really wanted to like this camera. The resolution is excellent, and the images are clear. However, the app is extremely buggy, to the point of rendering this camera useless. The app has a bad habit of randomly changing settings on its own, for instance, it changed motion detection to vehicle detection, and kept reporting on my car parked in the driveway every few minutes for several hours until I figured it out. It has changed from color to black and white. One time, it decided to turn on the flood light LEDs when it detected motion at night. Crazy. Sometimes it does not report when it should, and sometimes it reports when there is nothing there. At night, the infrared lights attract insects, and then trigger motion sensing every few minutes. You are supposed to be able to play videos from the SD card, but I have not gotten one to play yet. For a long time the app kept crashing almost every time I used it until they did an update. I have high speed fiber, but it is very slow connecting and takes forever to buffer before showing live video. I contacted Foscam technical support, and although they responded quickly, they have no clue how to fix the app issues. They even asked me for my account name and password so they could go in and look. Obviously, I told them no.

Great picture, quick easy setup!
This was my 4th Foscam camera, my 2nd outdoor camera, but my first POE camera. I'll never go back! Setup through my Netgear POE switch was simple and it was so much easier running an ethernet cable rather than a power cable having to subsequently worry about connecting WiFi when the hook ups were all finished.White ethernet cable is much more forgiving to run along a house, and once plugged into the port on the camera, it was up and running in about 10 seconds! By the time I went inside to see if the picture was up on my screen, everything was there. (I had connected the camera to the app inside the night before with the same result using the ethernet cable). The picture is fantastic (included, following a heavy downpour) and the camera has been up for about a week with 100% uptime. I haven't seen the picture drop out at all and I work from home so I'm watching it constantly. The alerts are spot on although I can really only use sound notifications and person notifications since this is my backyard.I was able to integrate this into Blue Iris in 3-5 minutes and it was running in Home Assistant shortly after that. I am brand new to all of these programs so the less the frustration with the devices, the more I can tolerate with the programs, but there was nothing with this camera. Using Blue Iris and Deepstack was simple to integrate, and the AI as well as the notifications are coming instantly.Customer service with Foscam has been phenomenal (my oversight on one of my first cameras) and all the cameras work incredibly well. I have an HT2 on the east corner of my house that works great and I'll be running an ethernet cable to that this week as well. All future cameras will be Foscam and I don't see any reason I won't be going with the POE cameras moving forward! I'll be adding another Foscam 4k V8EP shortly to the southern corner of my house.Definitely recommend this camera for ease of hookup, picture quality, ease of integration, and the company for their customer service.

Doesn't work with generic NVR's
I have a generic NVR. One of my existing cameras broke, so I purchased Foscam camera and hooked it up to my NVR. Had a little trouble connecting, but got over that hurdle. The NVR constantly loses connection to the camera and it never happened to my old cameras (probably about 10 years old). I would connect it, but after a while (probably every couple of hours) it would lose connection again. The night vision of this camera is meh. You can see maybe 15-20 ft out, but that's about it. It's all big dark blob after that. I also installed Foscam app and the camera never lost connection to it. So if you have Foscam NVR and use Foscam app, I suspect it will work OK. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

4K quality so detailed!
This is my 8th Foscam camera. This V8EP model with 4K UHD/110 degree viewing angle is amazing. The 4K viewing makes the images so detailed and crisp allowing you to see greater detail when zoomed in as opposed to 2K cameras. As with all other Foscams, you simply scan the QR code on the camera with the app and it takes only a couple of minutes to complete! One thing to note, this is a POE camera meaning you will need to provide a POE switch or get a power adapter to power the camera. I decided to use a power adapter and found one for $8.99 on Amazon. If you have multiple POE cameras, you can pick up a decent 5 port switch for not a whole lot more. I was a little hesitant to use POE cameras as I am used to wireless, but it provides a stable and reliable connection and it's just as easy to set up.The built in siren is fairly loud and will definitely get your attention! Additionally, the built in light brightens up the area quite well, although the camera does also have built in infrared capability. These features can be set up to be triggered with sound and/or motion detection. You can also toggle them off/on manually.

Decent Budget 4K Camera - Returned for Better True Color Night Vision
The price is what initially drove me to invest in this FOSCAM V8EP camera—it seemed like a solid deal for 4K resolution, AI human/vehicle detection, 66ft color night vision, and IP66 weatherproofing. Setup was straightforward with PoE power, and basic features like the siren alert, two-way talk, and wide 110° FOV worked as expected. However, I ended up returning it because the image quality didn't meet my standards, as I was seeking for a camera that could deliver true color night vision. The video was acceptable for casual, non-security footage but lacked sharpness in low light. This camera is alright if you're looking to capture general surveillance on a budget or snag it with a good promo deal. For serious security applications where you need higher quality footage, I'd recommend investing in a different model instead.
