Stylish addition to the kitchen
I can't give this coffee mill 5 stars as I've never used another one - manual or electric - before. But it looks good, is well made, simple to use, and does the job - freshly ground coffee each time, rather than an open packet that goes flat after a few days. So, to make a double espresso, grind 1 heaped TABLESPOON of Indian Malabar beans while the kettle boils. Add to a small, 3-cup cafetiere, then half fill with just off the boil water. Ponder on life for a couple of minutes, then press and pour. Bahlsen biscuits are optional.

Great grinder for the moka pot
I love this coffee grinder.I read the reviews before buying one for my mum as present - I wasn't sure if I should get an electric one or this one (her hands are not as strong as they used to be). I finally chose this one because I couldn't find a good electrical one in the price-range - and I didn't regret this for a minute!First of all, the design is great. When my husband saw it, he said that he would like one too - and now we have one ourselves. The design matches the moka pot we use so we keep both of them on the window sill, they look very stylish.Second, ease of use. Just put the coffee straight in and start grinding. It is surprisingly easy to grind (I remember old grinders my grandma used to have - you had to break a sweat making a cup of coffee! - nothing like that here), it goes very smoothly and quickly. If I get more grinds than I need, I just turn the bottom part of the grinder over the Illy coffee jar (I bought ground coffee in it once and now use it for storage). The size of the grind is adjustable, so it works well for moka pot, cafetiere, or cezve.Third, freshly ground coffee is divine. Even the same Santos Dark beans, pre-ground and stored in the fridge, are not comparable with the freshly ground taste. Now we look forward to grinding our coffee every morning.

Too much like hard work
I found this very hard to use, you have to hold the mill with one hand while turning the grinder with the other hand. It keeps slipping all over the worktop. I've tried holding it between my knees, and under my arm to keep it steady. I am very disappointed with this product. It now lives at the back of my cupboard, what a waste of money!!! I wish I had paid a little bit more and bought a electric one.

2 years of use and mixed feelings.
This is a well built grinder. The design is lovely, it essentially a stove top espresso maker with the top being reconditioned as a grinder. Now the issue I have with this item is the design, sure it looks good but it isn't practical. The design isn't meant for holding. I have large hands but the grinder is still too large for me to properly grip if I have a stubborn hard roast to grind.Sure it chews up a softer grind or a coarse grind without too much trouble but I have had to stop using this because it's too much hard work.Another major problem is that there is no lid or top to prevent beans from flying out. With the amount of effort required for some roasts and due to it being difficult to hold occasionally the grinder wobbles and beans go a flying!Due to its price and poor practical design I find this as quite a novelty item. Therefore I give it two stars. If this review was based solely on design then sure it'd get a solid 4 stars but really all I wanted was a solid grinder that I could comfortably hold without losing beans from the top of it.

Tower of strength
I have been grinding coffee manually for 22 years and in that time I have worn out three manual coffee grinders. I have tried a very expensive electric coffee grinder, but found that it destroyed the flavour of the coffee bean, due to the speed at which they grind. This is why I grind my coffee manually so that I do not destroy the delicate flavour of the bean. The Italian Coffee Mill brings out the very best in the coffee bean, but its let down is that you need significant strength and grip to grind the beans. It is very well made and the coffee tastes excellent. If you are fussy like me and want great tasting coffee and prepared to put up with the strength required to grind your beens, then I reckon this is a good as they come.

A smart and effective manual coffee grinder
I purchased this coffee grinder to replace an antique wooden box model that did not grind fine enough for my Bialetti Moka Express coffee makers. The CKS grinder did the trick. The fineness of grind is very easy to adjust , following simple instructions on the box. You can adjust the grind from a powder to a coarse grind. Of course, the finer grinds take longer. The grinder is quiet - it just makes a scrunchy sort of noise that would not wake anybody up in the morning. The only difficulty is holding the grinder steady during grinding. You can hold it firmly down on the work surface by its 'waist' or even hold it on one hand while turning the handle with the other. This provides a little exercise before drinking the coffee !I was also seduced by the aesthetic appeal of the grinder which takes its place on a shelf alongside my Bialettis.

Excellent
Been using it for a few months now. I decided to buy one because I made a mistake and bought beans instead of ground coffee - all right, I know - bit of an expensive solution - but I was curious to see if fresh ground beans tasted any different to the pre-ground coffee you can buy - and they do.Like others here I didn't want yet another kitchen gadget that you plugged in, but I didn't want something so cheap and flimsy it would fall apart in five minutes either. I was guided by the generally positive reviews of this model and I've not been disappointed. Robust, easy to use, easy to adjust, easy to clean, and a small footprint. My father in law says it reminds him of a design he remembers from the 1950's, but I wouldn't know about that. You'd have to be very fussy to fault it.***Update***Been using it for a about a year now, almost daily - still like brand new. No problems.
