I was pleasantly surprised by this - the taste is (as mentioned by other reviewers) a tad bitter so I wouldn't drink this on its own like in a shot. But mixed with tonic water it is really nice and has a good medicinal bitter taste to it. Definitely not for teens or young people, I didn't like bitter drinks until I was in my 30s. But the most amazing thing is the effect on the body. You actually get a real "high" from it even though it is non-alcoholic. My partner drank it and then drove our car, and he said he almost felt unable to drive properly as he was getting a high/drunken feeling from it. I cannot tell if it's an actual "high" high or just a big increase in GABA but I like the feeling. I would like to have this more often in the evenings, but as it is so expensive that is prohibitive to making it a regular sun downer. It's reserved for special occasions at the moment.

Bought the red prior to this which I really like so thought I’d try the black. Heard it was a bit more earthy and licorice like. I mixed it with lemonade but did not like it at all! The taste actually made me gag and I couldn’t drink it. Will stick to the red one in future

I bought this as a gift after hearing it mentioned on a radio show. Quite expensive for the size. Don't know how it tastes or if it lives up to the hype yet.

Unfortunately the taste isn't pleasant - mixed with tonic water and lots of lime juice to get around the flavour. And there was no noticeable affect so won't be ordering this or other gaba products again

This will not be for everyone; it has peppery notes which give a unique flavour. I love it. The GABA addition (inhibitory hormone in our brains) adds a noticeable relaxing effect. I’ve only mixed it with ginger ale currently and 25ml shot. Add plenty of ice; tastes even better cold!

Love the idea of this drink. It is super unique and definitely does the job. It was extremely strong, the smell is very intense on opening. It was a bit too intense for me, but the quality and effect of it was great.

To set the scene, it's the year 2000, I'm 18, and I'm at Glastonbury Festival. It's late at night and some hippie guy is serving me up a very strong guarana tea from a large steaming pan. I remember it well, because I spent the remainder of the night feeling elated and full of beans, and all without being under the influence of any legal or not legal substances or solutions. Gaba Black tastes like someone has distilled that entire pan of hippie tea into a 70cl bottle, and it provides similar effects. It's certainly an acquired taste, but let's be honest, alcohol tastes terrible and the only reason we drink it is because we like the effects. If they asked me how they could improve this product, my thinking would be that they should lean into the questionable taste, and make it even stronger, perhaps concentrate even more plant extracts into each 70cl bottle. I think the pricing is a bit optimistic too, I would give it another go, but for a few less of your finest hippie crystals.

The taste is powerful and complex - you'll either love it or be overwhelmed. The effects are subtle but undeniable. Glad to have this as a third choice over drinking alcohol or plain AF spirits. Makes for a mellow evening.
