The Art of Magic: The Gathering - Ixalan

I picked up this book on a whim because I am starting a Dungeons and Dragons campaign set in Ixalan. I was surprised by exactly how valuable this book was to me. There is nice world-building with details about each faction, notable characters to work with, and details about the history of Ixalan. Some parts are more fleshed out than others, but I am super happy to have this as a resource. I love the aesthetic, the print quality is really really nice, and it was definitely worth what I paid for it. I may have to pick up the Art books for a couple of other planes that I am interested in.

Since they first started coming out with these Art Books, I've been in love with them and this one is no different. There aren't a lot of supplemental products out there for Magic the Gathering fans, so these have been sorely needed. Enjoying the always amazing art in nice big splash pages allows you to see so much little detail you just can't get by squinting at the cards. Fans of the great artists of magic the gathering as well as those who love the lore, flavor and storyline should definitely check these out.

I only recently got back into Magic, and the Ixalan has been my favorite so far. I love the concept and art style so I just had to purchase this book, and I was just blown away by the sheer content this book holds. It goes through all the lore and characters for Ixalan and of course has beautiful illustrations. A must have for fans!!

This is my fifth book of The Art of Magic the Gathering series. Yes, I have them all and can't wait for the next one, Dominaria, in July this year. I don't even play the TCG, but I am always a big fan of this type of art concepts books. The quality of the paper, the painting, color, story/info of different groups/gangs, everything is great about this book.

All of the books from this series are astonishing. The imagery is surreal and the writing, simply brilliant. This book provides everything about the plane. It gives an amazing storyline that follows the card sets and a short history of the cards in the set, but the real power of the book is the images and the story, which makes up 95% of the book. You do not need to know anything about mtg to enjoy these wonderful books. Highly recommended for anyone that likes fantasy.

As with most of the Art of Magic: The Gathering Artbooks, the artwork is stunning! They never seem to disappoint so far. I’ve collected at least three of them so far..

The art in this volume is good, but not as good as the other volumes as the book is "lacking" Depth and Contrast.

comprato perché fan della lore di magic e delle sue illustrazioni. ho già quello di zendikar ed ixalan, proprio per la sua fantasiosa ambientazione azteca + dinosauri + pirati è culla di numerose bellissime illustrazioni. il libro è in inglese, è bello grosso, ricco di illustrazioni a tutta pagina accompagnate da spiegazioni sia sul mondo di ixalan che, alla fine, sul processo creativo di design dell'espansione, delle razze e dei personaggi. per il prezzo, ottimo prodotto! ve lo consiglio per un regalo a chi gioca magic o ama le illustrazioni fantasy.

Diese Produktrezension gilt für alle fünf veröffentlichten Bücher gleichermaßen. Ich besitze alle und würde auch keines mehr hergeben. Ich behaupte mal das jeder der Magic the Gathering spielt auch in die Artworks verliebt ist. Natürlich macht Magic the Gathering nicht nur die Kunst aus, sondern auch Sachen wie die Spielmechanik oder kompetitive Aspekte. Nichts desto trotz ist die Kunst ein entscheidender Erfolgsfaktor möchte ich mal behaupten. Ich habe 1996 mit diesem Spiel begonnen, und dass hatte erstmal mit dem Design und den Artworks zu tun, bis ich gemerkt habe wie absolut vollkommen die Spielmechanik selbst ist. Magic the Gathering ist bis heute für mich das beste Spiel aller Zeiten, mediumsübergreifend. Aber jetzt mal zum Buch selbst. Da ich ein großer Fan der Artworks bin, musste ich diese Bücher natürlich haben. Ich dachte mir zuerst dass es sich wohl um einen weiteres Produkt handelt mit dem einfach versucht wird noch ein bisschen Geld mit vergangenen Editionen zu generieren und lediglich ein paar hochauflösende Artworks abgebildet werden (was nicht schlecht wäre, den "High Res" Artworks sind nicht in Hülle und Fülle verfügbar)... dem ist aber nicht so. Es sind nicht nur wunderschöne hochauflösende Artworks über das Buch verteilt, sondern auch die komplette Hintergrundstory der jeweiligen Edition. Bis dato hatte ich mich eigentlich wenig für die Hintergrund Geschichte interessiert, nach diesen Büchern allerdings schon. Es ist Wahnsinn was für umfangreiche Hintergrundgeschichten hinter den einzelnen Editionen stecken und was die Karten im endefekt für Geschichten erzählen. Es ist auch unglaublich zu sehen wie tiefe diese Ausführungen ins Detail gehen. Hier werden komplette Welten aus dem Äther erschaffen, anhand der Story und den Artworks, dass es beim Lesen so mancher Stellen oft schwer fällt durchgehend zu realisieren das es sich um ein "Märchen" handelt (Gesellschaftsstrukturen, Politik, Verhalten gewisser Rassen alles im Detail erklärt). Die Hintergrundgeschichte der Edition wird in einer sehr ausführlichen Zusammenfassung erzählt. Die Zusammenfassung ist so ausführlich, das dass Lesen der kompletten Geschichte nicht mehr nötig ist. Sehr spezial werden alle Themen behandelt, von der grundsätzlichen Geschichte, bis zu allen Eigenschaften der Welt um welche sich die Edition dreht, bis hin zu einem ausführlichen Bestiarium. Die Abschnitte der Bücher sind hier immer in etwa gleich aufgeteilt und behandeln die gleichen Themen... wie schaut die Welt aus? was für Probleme gibt es? Was für Monster leben in Ihr? etc. Das Buch ist ziemlich groß und sehr hochwertig! Es besteht aus extra dicken Papier und besonders hochqualitativen Drucken! Es ist ein wirklich sehr hochwertiges Buch welches sehr gut verarbeitet wurde. In meinen Augen ist es jeden Penny wert. Bis jetzt sind fünf verschiedene Bücher erschienen. Die Serie soll meines Wissens aber weitergehen. Auch wurden die Bücher im Design so erschaffen dass sie sich dem Rest der Serie optisch und vom Inhalt anpassen (jedes hat zum Beispiel eine andere Farbe, gleicher Druck etc.). Wie bereits erwähnt wurde hier ein großer Aufwand betrieben und nicht nur irgendwelche Bilder einfach abgedruckt. Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung.
