Nice features - did not last - update, found a fix - upgraded the rating
Pro - 3-prong grounded switch, fairly heavy power-switching ability, inexpensive, lots of programs, handy pocket for instruction sheet. Rated to switch motors up to 15amp.Con - My issue is longevity. Worked fine at first, then after a period of use I set it aside (indoor storage, several months) until the internal battery ran out. When I plugged it in again to recharge, it gets a little warm but no display at all. The charging circuit evidently works, but the battery is shot (maybe?).Advice - keep it plugged in, or at least refresh the charge once a month or so.Update - tried something that rebooted the timer, namely the reset button (small hole with recessed pushbutton.) Doh. Almost placed it in the electronic waste pile.It seems that a complete loss of battery power needs a reset to boot the process after charging. Instructions mention the Reset in regards to erasing previous programs, but no mention of reset needed for a cold start. Instructions could include some basic troubleshooting tips for dummies like I.

Holy mackeral! A company that actually thinks!
Hey, it's only a timer. A lot of companies could learn from this timer and its manufacturer. Despite being made in a non-English speaking country, the directions are absolutely clear. Additionally, they are all words and not just a bunch of pictures that may or may not be clearly labeled. The kicker -- the manufacturer put a second set of instructions into a slot in the device itself. Thus, when you promptly lose, forget, or misfile the instructions that came packaged with the product you will always have a set that stays with it. I suspect this suggestion came from an employee or customer, and and the manufacturer listened. This timer is more complex than most, allowing you to set different on and off times for each day of the week, and multiple times per day. The only real limitations are a maximum of 20 total on/off times and a maximum of 10 amps for the product plugged into it.I don't rave about too many things because I'm old enough to remember poor quality and poor service were the exception rather than the expectation. This product is economically priced, well packaged, and does what it is supposed to do. I'm happy to give it five stars. Unless it has a short lifespan of less than seven years, the five stars will remain.

Used to be great, now not so much.
This is a mixed review. I bought four of these several years ago and really like them. A clever feature is a tiny slot on the back where a wee instruction sheet can be stored. Seriously, who can remember how to program these things? They’ve been working great for years. I ordered two more recently and was disappointed. The internal battery would not charge. I left them both plugged in overnight and they were still unresponsive in the morning. Returned. I don’t know if it was just a fluke or four years later they’ve cut corners on manufacturing quality.

Woods 50009WD Timer Works Great!
I own too many of these Woods 50009WD timers, and that's because:1) they are exceptionally reliable--I have one that is eight years old;2) permit discontiguous on/off cycle settings;3) provide a LOT of independent on/off cycles;4) offer DST;5) are comparatively inexpensive. There are some downsides, of course:The instructions could be better. The thing is bulky. And while it is electronic (good), it is NOT "smart" (bad).Receptacle and switch devices are moving toward automation, but it is "bleeding edge" technology. That means these wifi-embedded devices, in whatever form they take, are quite pricey. Various technology standards exist, but manufactures are free to choose any, which translates to proprietary development and incompatibility across different products. And THAT means you might be stuck with one brand of devices.Various approaches exist presently--one can purchase here on Amazon, all of which are quite expensive...- wifi-embedded receptacles and switches that replace standard receptacles and switches;- wifi-embedded receptacles that plug into a standard receptacles; and/or,- wifi-embedded control boards that install behind standard receptacles (this concept is brilliant, btw).Until "smart" devices settle on ONE ubiquitous, compatible standard AND become affordable, the Woods 50009WD timer will suffice!

Well designed 7 day programmable timer.
- Has a number of programming groups like individual days, every other day, every week day, etc.- 20 programmable on/off times.- Two outlets, both are on timer.- There is an internal battery to keep your program when unplugged (not sure how long though).- There is a handy little slot in the case which holds a folded instruction paper, to keep the instructions with the device. Great idea.- There is also a "random" setting which allows you to turn on a light for security reasons, and have it on and off at random intervals.- There is a button to switch daylight savings time on/off (up/down 1 hr) which is really handy. All clock devices should have this!- Case and button quality is high - seems like a well made device.

Well designed
This is a really, really well designed product. Lots of different programs available, easy switch to Daylight Savings Time, micro-manual storable in a slot on the back of the timer, big flexibility in terms of time. The only thing you have to remmember is if you use the ON/OFF button for manual switching, it will keep it's ON/OFF setting when you change it to AUTO. So if it's timed to be off and you want to turn it off from manual ON, you have to switch to OFF first before going to AUTO. This is standard behavior in many timers.

Low quality
I bought two woods timers in both cases the Batteries did not change after hours. Does not work.Woods is very a low quality brand. Avoid. Total waste of time and money.

Works perfectly. I'm using this to control the lights on 2 fishtanks, one has a light ramp controller, the other has a RFID LED controller. It works with all these extra gadgets, just remember that when its in the "off" setting, it cuts the power completely so you cant turn the lights on remotely unless you turn the timer back on. The multiple different on/off settings is perfect for people that want to have a "siesta" during their light period; I have my lights come on in the morning for 4 hours, then again for 4 more hours at 10pm. If you keep live plants this is pretty important if you want to enjoy your tanks when you're actually home - and not get algae

Excellent, good for high wattage appliances such as heaters and air conditioners. To clarify, it is rated for 1875 watts (regular appliances like heaters, air conditioners...etc) as per user's manual. Tungsten rating (lower) is for tungsten light bulbs, so it says in the manual.
