Where do i measure old taps to ensure correct fit?

Sorry don't know the answer as had Plummer to fit mine but they are lovely tap tops look very posh.i think they do fit most bath wash basins though,may be a good idea to ask seller.

Are these suitable for compression valve mixer taps?

Depends on how many splines there are on original - but most probably, not really sure sorry.

How are the hot and cold written, basically if it is in pen - this is why I need a replacement as my previous ones has rubbed off. Can you advised?

I assume the letters are printed on, but they will wear out usually after about 10 years. This is the third set I’ve installed in 25 years on my basin and this set has been used for about 18 months so far with no sign of wearing out.

What's the material of the top not the cartridges?

White plastic insert in metal, chrome plated. May be better than previous ceramic ones which cracked anyway.
