Fruit Flies Flightless - Large

I keep dart frogs and bought fruit flies from many pet shops but these are by far the best I have ever bought! My local pet shop gets a delivery of bugs once a week and their flies are always half dead by the time you buy them and they only last a few feeds. I ordered 2 of these (they come in the tall cups rather than the tub in the picture, which is better, as easier to harvest them) and there were hundreds of maggots in each pot, which over the past couple of weeks have produced tons and tons of flies, too many for my frogs to even eat! Hopefully, it wasn't just a fluke but will deffo be ordering again :) Excellent value for money!

Arrived in a standard fruit fly culture pot (the tall cup shaped ones, not the square one as shown in the picture).Tiny amount of mould upon arrival, but it doesn't seem to have affected the flies at all. My pot's been producing a good amount and it's been two weeks.Barely any flies on arrival (about 10) but tons of maggots - after about 3-4 days at room temperature all the maggots came up and now there's TONS of flies - more than I expected after initially receiving the pot!

They dont look flightless but they are i thought it would be a nightmare getting them in the plastic tub my young mantis is in but wen i opened the box i just picked the cardbourd bit up and taped it too get a few flys out.I would suggest you get some kitchen role on the bottom of the box quite a few had drowned in the juice from the fruit in the box.

Only recieved about ten as the medium was so watery it killed most of the fruitflys! However they quickly reproduced and ended up with another full tub after only a week or so. The reason for only two stars is they were full of mites and we didnt realise until our Tarantulas were infested with them! So in the end it turned out to be very expensive fix to get rid of the mites would not recommend buying at all unless you are prepared to deal with mite infestation and possible death of your animals because of them.

My little fruities came quickly in a nice large box so they had plenty of air for their journey here. They had already been breeding by the time they arrived so within two weeks there was already an explosion of fruit flies ready for my two praying mantises. The food-gel-stuff they came in was mostly odorless so no bad smells and also lasted two generations of fruit flies. I still have many fruit flies left but feed them on fruit now. Because they keep breeding, and seem nice and healthy, this made the purchase well worth while :-) it certainly beats having to flap around our compost bin with a net trying to catch the ones which can fly, only to find that they are brilliant at escaping when trying to transfer them from net to mantis cage.... Then spending the next hour combing the house trying to catch the escapees... Not so fun!

Took a few days before i got some flys,then hundred of the little things,great for my slings.

Excellent little culture, lots of flies and blooming on arrival so should feed my frogs for a few weeks.

Turned up in good time, few live flies but plenty of maggots as expected. Massive box stuffed with newspaper which is rather unnecessary and some mould around the sides which might cause problems.
