Quality item - worked perfectly.
Installed to monitor our Sonicwall Firewalls via the console port as they the most unreliable pieces of kit on the planet. Unlike this serial adaptor that has worked perfectly!

Solid performer, well build, just what we needed
This does exactly what it's supposed to. After installing the drivers i had 8 new com ports all working in parallel. You do have to work out which com device maps to which physical port but that's straightforward and a windows 'feature' rather than a failing of the device itself. I'm using it powered only by the USB connection and have had no issues, recommended.

StarTech 4 port USB to Serial adaptor
Easy to set up and connects my W7 laptop to a serial device. No need to use the software disc as Windows recognised the new hardware.I was able to connect my device via this adaptor to my laptop first time....note that in Device Manager you need to do a bit of trial and error to work out which port the new device is connected to when you undertake the software handshaking ...otherwise it reports a 'device not present' error. The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows Update is now trying to find new drivers for this widget - but reports an error when it fins that there aren't any. It's a bit of a shame that the adaptor doesn't ship with the mains/5V DC power adaptor as I need to now find the right one that is compatible.Whilst I may not need to use the power supply by doing so I will reduce the power loading from my laptop so I think StarTech should ship the unit with a power supply as a matter of course in future. As they are only about £10 it won't add too much to the base cost of the 4-port adpator
