WORTH IT. Cocktails, sure - but also for dessert or paired with cheese
Yes, it's expensive. he** yes, it's worth it! These small, dark, whole natural cherries are in syrup that is 75% cherry juice - incredibly rich, viscous, and satisfying. Sweet-tart, with a slightly almost boozy note, but not harsh or bitter at all. Everyone mentions using these in cocktails, but we keep a jar of these around for desserts and cheese plates, too. In fact, after a heavy meal, you can put a small bowl of these out with toothpicks and just serve them straight as dessert. People go crazy for them! You can also use as a topping for ice cream (a little goes a long way b/c it's so concentrated), or for the ultimate decadent treat pair with a high-quality chocolate (we've only tried with dark) by dabbing some syrup and a single cherry onto a square. If you're a fan of the buttery Gateau Basque cake, these are the closest in flavor to the Basque wild cherries (iGourmet, via Amazon.com) we've found - and the price point, with shipping, is actually a bit cheaper.

Extraordinary cherries worth every penny!
If you're looking for a truly exceptional cherry for your top-shelf Manhattan or gourmet ice cream sundae, look no further. The Luxardo cherries are incomparable and worth the heavy price. They don't have any of the artificial taste, smell or color of the usual maraschinos -- even the much higher end brands that are available. The flavor of the Luxardos is truly amazing. Not too sweet and bursting with a dark cherry flavor. They come in a heavier syrup that would make them ideal to use as a spoon treat. The texture is luscious, like a confection. They are much smaller than the usual maraschinos and don't come with stems, so as a drink garnish, plan to spear a few on a pick for best effect. I must confess, I find them so delicious, I've eaten them right out of the jar on their own. Highly recommend them. And oh, if you're trying to decide if you really need both jars: Trust me, you do! My brother bought a very large can of them at the same time I ordered the two jars and I regret that I didn't get more.

worth every penny
I used to work in a big chain liquor store and was surprised so many people bought these expensive cherries. So I finally bought a bottle. I really enjoy a high class bourbon manhattan. I put two cherries and a small spoon of the juice and pour the manhattan over them. The cherries absolutely compliment the drink.

Best cherries ever, NOT for snacking!
These things are amazing! I use them to make Manhattans at home, and they are a MAJOR step up from the normal maraschino cherries. The only issue is that they are a lil expensive! Or so says my wife... before I bought these, I caught my wife stealing my Rye soaked maraschinos from my drink! I calmly explained that that was a NO-NO! So she asked whenever I made a drink that I throw a few extra in. No problem love! I would also catch her snacking on the maraschino cherries right out of the jar. No biggie. So then these amazingly delicious, sweet, meaty, Italian, Luxardos show up! I immediately make an equally delicious manhattan, and throw in a couple extra cherries for the wifey. No surprise, she LOVES them. Well, the next day I come home from work and catch her munching on the damn Luxardos right out of the jar!!!?!?! I explain that they are about $16/jar and NOT for snacking. A small argument ensues about spending so much on a jar of cherries, blah blah blah. While mixing up my after work bevie, I calmly explain that If JUST used for garnishing an adult libation, a jar will last a long time! If wifey is snacking on them like popcorn, it's gonna get expensive:)

Expensive BUT worth every (cherry) pit!
My daughter introduced me to Luxardo Cherries years ago and I've hooked on them ever since. Great for Manhattans, Whiskey Sours, Mai-Tais, salads - anything! Not overly sweet, not overly sour, just perfect. Once you try them you'll swear off the cheap maraschino pieces in the grocery store! And, if your bartender or friend offers you a drink with other than a Luxardo, you'll have a great comeback!
