CROC'IN - Tomato Tartlet Shells - Edible Savoury Appetizer Mini Pastry Cases - Artisanal Confection - 24 Pieces

I have never used anything like these little Tartlet Shells before so was a little sceptical, but the quality and the taste was top notch! They are so easy to use and the shells are sturdy and didn't go soggy at all. I used them for tiny prawn cocktails as a starter for our Christmas lunch and they went down a treat everyone loved them, they looked a proper little treat served on a small oblong plate with chives and a tiny bread roll... I think they are value for money for many things like, taste, how they looked and the quality.... honestly try them you won't be disappointed.. sorry I didn't take any pictures they got eaten

I love the convenience of this packet of small tartlet shells as you have ready-made pastry cases ready to be filled. I made cheese and onion quiches in these tomato tartlet shells and whilst I liked the taste and texture of them, I don’t think they particularly tasted of tomato. Although they are well packed, a few of the cases had broken a little around the rim but all 24 were useable. For convenience, speed and high quality I would recommend these CROC’IN tartlet cases.

If you're having a savoury appetiser and want something a bit fancy then these shells do provide a good base. They are bitesize so depending on the filling, can be eaten without mess. On the front of the box it shows both a savoury and sweet uses so I tried both. The first I made a fajita filling adding some plain yogurt to help cool the spices a bit and it worked well. The only downside really was the hardness of the shell making it quite awkward to bite into and chew. It provides a nice flavour - it has that tomato flavour with hints of garlic, paprika and basil. So I did find this a bit odd when it comes to using it as a sweet base. I tried it with just plain yogurt, blackberry and strawberry and it was just too overpowering a flavour which didn't match the sweetness at all. I'm not keen on the packaging but it does protect the cups from breaking. Once opened they need to be kept in a sealed container or they do get a bit softer. They are quite expensive at £10 for a 24 pack but they do seem good quality.

These are tiny and a size of a big bite. They are handy for children's parties but on their own they are not particularly tasty so they definitely require filling. They taste quite dry and like crackers with tomato powder added to them. These are great for savouries, add some salad in and they won't melt away immediately but do not fill them up long before you serve them. What I dislike is the inside of packaging which is all plastic, tough plastic wrap and the deep plastic tray. Not good at all. Paper is preferable. And cellulose.
