This book lit up my kid’s imagination like nothing else. The Dangerous Gift quickly became a favorite in our house—my 12-year-old devoured it in just a couple of days and immediately started re-reading it. The character of Snowfall, the young IceWing queen, really resonated with them. They loved seeing a strong, determined dragon wrestle with leadership and trust, and the story sparked so many great conversations about courage and empathy. The writing is vivid and fast-paced, and the world-building is just phenomenal. It’s not just a book—it’s a portal into a universe that feels alive. My child was completely immersed, and I love that it encourages reading while also exploring deeper themes in a way that’s accessible and exciting. If your kid is into dragons, adventure, or just great storytelling, this one’s a must-have. We’re already lining up the next book in the series!

Another phenomenal entry in the series. I just finished reading it last night, and no, I didn’t cry afterwards because of how epic this book was, I cried because I was so happy I finished the book. The characters that we love. Check. The story that we need. Check. Tie ins to the other books. Double check. The point I’m trying to convey is, it is the book we have been waiting for. Snowfall evolves in the book, from being a spoiled, self centered, paranoid queen, to a dragon who will fight for what’s right. It’s certainly better than the Lost Contident, which did bore me a bit, but looking back, it was story building. It’s just Blue seemed unrelatable. I don’t know if this is better than the Hive Queen or The Poision Jungle, though, because those were sort of unbeatable. The Hive Queen is on my top five. I would only suggest reading this if you’ve read every other book because it has tie ins to just about every single one. Including Wren and Sky from Dragonslayer, Cricket, Sundew, Willow, Blue and Swordtail from the rest of the third arc, Darkstalker is referenced a lot, Winter, Moon, and Quilbi make an appearance, and that’s just a few of the tie ins. Each and every book in the Wings of Fire series evolves the series, whereas I feel that this one took a step back and decided to evolve both the characters and the series.

As someone who's definitely in the older range (30+), I think I felt a special fondness for this book and the protagonist because we get to see someone a position where they wondered if they were ready for it and always wondering how others think they are doing, grow as the book progresses. We also get answers to stuff from prior books. I would say without spoiling too much, but you should read both Darkstalker and Dragonslayer as there are references in this book (or maybe you want to read up on what people are referencing?). Other than that, there's not too much to add - this is the 14th book in the series and the 4th book in the third "arc" so you should've at least read books 11 - 13 (since they are definitely tied to this book) and know what to expect. Personally, I think this is one of the better written books in the series (not that i would say any are outright poorly written/bad - flawed? yeah, but not bad). I think the protagonist is one of my favorites simply because they were relatable - again a young character forced into a role they weren't expecting with doubts associated to it and having to grow. I can't wait to see the conclusion to everything in book 15 and see if there are any more books expected - because I don't feel like I've hit the wall with the series yet.

Many reviews under other books of the wings of fire series have complaints of book arriving damaged but this one came perfectly new. All of the dust jacket was comepletely flat with no rips or tears or even any faint scratches. The hardcover book itself also came with no marks . All of the pages were printed very brightly and aligned correctly. I've seen on other amazon book reviews that the covers sometimes feel and look different then one that is from a book store. THe copy of the dangerous gift is comepletely legible in comparison to the other 3 hardcover wings of fire books I own. Certainly the same matierial. That is the quality of my copy of the book The plot itself, while I am going to resist explaining thoroughly, was extremely hooking. In my opinion the plot wasn't as hooking as the other books of the arc but it was definitely a good read. There are plot twists an characters that were very suprising. Important to note: This book is a part of a series so before reading this one you will have to read all of the other ones to make sense. Obvious but important. Overall worth the wait of 1 year for this book and I am extremely pleased with amazon's quick preorder shipping as I recieved the book the day of release. The book lives up to the standards of the other books.

Really enjoyed this book. I got a little bored of Luna always talking about tapestries until I reached the end of the book and understood why.

Great insight into the Ice Kingdom. You get to see things from the structured and ordered ice kingdom. Dragons who live for order and rules. You also find out what happened to the animus magic. Great addition to the series.

Series Info/Source: This is the 14th book in the Wings of Fire series and the fourth book in this particular story arc about the Lost Continent. I got this as an audiobook (for my son) from Audible. Audiobook Quality (4/5): The audiobook was decently done, I didn’t mind it. There are a lot of characters in this book and some of the character voices sounded very similar. Even given that I was never confused about who was who and the narration was pleasant to listen to. Story (4/5): This book mainly follows Snowfall but ties into both the book featuring the “scavengers” (humans) and the books featuring the dragons from the Lost Continent. We mainly follow Snowfall as she struggles to figure out how to be a good queen and ends up having to deal with, not only new types of dragons, but also humans who can speak dragon! I enjoyed how everything came together and am excited to see how it all wraps up in the next book. Characters (4/5): We spend more time with a lot of the side dragons from other books and get to also spend time with a lot of old favorites. Snowfall is definitely not a dragon I really love spending time with, however she did undergo a lot of growth throughout the story. I enjoyed the other dragons more than her. I loved watching the dragons from both continents interact. I also really enjoyed when the dragons meet the humans who can speak dragon. Setting (4/5): The early part of the book takes place in the Ice Kingdom but we end up in Sanctuary by the end of the book. It was nice to be back on the main Continent. Not a lot to say about the setting, if you are still reading this series you are very familiar with it. Excellent world-building throughout this series. Writing Style (4/5): Again with a series this long-running there isn’t a lot to say that I haven’t said before. This was an engaging and easy to read book. I really enjoyed how so many storylines from the previous books come together in this novel. I am excited to see how the 15th book wraps up this storyline. I started reading these books with my son many, many years ago. They aren’t something I absolutely love because I haven’t really been into middle grade reading anymore; however, I enjoy the story enough to keep up with the series. I do think this is a middle grade series that is easy for parents to enjoy with their kids. I am not sure if Sutherland is planning another 5 book sub-series within this series, but I plan on stopping the series after this story arc ties up in book fifteen. My Summary (4/5): Overall this was another well done book in the Wings of Fire series. I think fans of the series will be really pleased with this. The featured dragon here, Snowfall, wasn’t my favorite but she undergoes a lot of change and growth throughout the book. I did enjoy how so many elements from earlier in the series are coming together so nicely. I am really looking forward to the final book in this story arc.

This book to me was so good! Jumping in between lives and the way it changed snowfall! I am so glad me parents got me this!

Not my favorite of the bunch. The main character in the first half of the book is just very frustrating, while it's part of her arc I did not enjoy it that much. It gets better throughout the story tough. But maybe am just growing to old for this by now, idk. Im not really in the demographic for this books anymore, so maybe don't mind me.

Snowfall and Sky sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G I love how Snowfall hates everyone at the start and by the end she has a crush on a Skywing I think it’s so funny that Snowfall is so paranoid and terrified of Crystal but it turns out Crystal wasn’t trying to get the throne, she left because she fell in love with a Mudwing named Gharial. The only things I didn’t like is there’s no pictures and that Sky isn’t in there for nearly long enough.
