Will this burn my counter top?

I can't say for certainty, but no. As soon as it heats up, the cooling fans on the outside of it kicks in. The inside remains hot and the outside blows cool air. You still need to handle with care, but the outside doesn't get as hot as a normal curling iron does.

Has anyone used it while traveling to Europe? It says dual voltage, but looking for a first-hand user at 230v.

I have not but it would be good to know.

Does this clamp on your hair or do you have to hold it closed?

It clamps down on your hair. You squeeze to release the hair.

It's not the curling iron that damages hair. Hair is damaged prior to using a curling iron, usually from overuse of blow dryers and/or coloring hair. The iron merely piles on already existing damage. Regular use of conditioner will greatly alleviate the severity of damaged hair.
