For your reading pleasure: My justification for my 5-star review of this product.Imagine, if you will, that you are sleeping. You are a tired mom, who usually wakes up to breastpump every four hours, but over the past week, you've been pushing your sleep 15 mins longer each time so you can train your body to get more rest while still maintaining your supply. You're dreaming about catching sharks and riding fourwheelers. You dont know why, but you know those kinds of whacky dreams only occur when you've entered the blissful state of REM sleep, and you're there for the first time in months.Suddenly, you hear an alarm and as your brain breaches the line between consciousness and dream world, you realize it's not your dream SCBA (dont ask why youre wearing one, because I have no answer) telling you you're low on oxygen. Your feet hit the ground before you fully awaken, the sounds of your heart pounding and your husband's feet hitting the floor in the background as the musical soundtrack to the reality of your baby's crib alarm sounding off through the baby monitor on your husband's nightstand. You know - the alarm that signals, "YOUR BABY HAS STOPPED MOVING FOR 20 SECONDS AND MIGHT NOT BE BREATHING ANYMORE".You get to your bedroom door. You live in a rental and you've never tested the door knobs (because why would you?). You dig your heels into the carpet to stop yourself, you grab the door handle, you twist the knob and pull, but the door doesn't open. Now, you're close enough to the nursery that you can hear the crib alarm telling you your baby is possibly not breathing, but you can't get your bedroom door open to reach him. You jerk on the door handle hard three times and glance back at your husband as you shout, "what the f@#$! What the f@#$!" Right before you step back to put your police training to use and breach the door with all of your size 7 foot, your brain finally engages and you realize these door knobs lock when you push them in and turn them (which you must have done when you slammed on your body breaks and grabbed the handle in the first place). You push in the handle, turn the knob, and rip the door open.You burst through the nursery door - your husband hot on your heels as you reach the crib in a single bound and reach toward your child. He has turned himself completely sideways in his crib and is resting peacefully in his sleep sack. He has stopped breathing twice before while he slept as an infant and you're not playing around, so you reach down and give him a quick shake at his shoulders to see if he'll wake up before you take the next step of sternum rubbing him. His eyes crack open as he tries to figure out where he is and then his screaming ensues. It sounds like Heaven to your ears. The crib alarm is still going off. Your husband is trying to get by you to turn it off, but you dont care. Your adrenaline is through the roof as you scoop up your little one. You're blocking the alarm button that sits at the middle base of the crib, so your husband reaches through your legs and turns it off.You turn with your baby in your arms and take the one step toward the rocking chair. The ottoman is in the way of you getting to sit down, so you kick it over and sit down - heart pounding against the baby's forehead as you rock him and try to console his screaming, repeating to him (and moreso yourself), "it's okay" with conviction over and over, as if it's your new life motto.You finally breathe for the first time in minutes and the adrenaline high begins to crash. You continue rocking the baby as you burst into uncontrollable laughter. You watch your husband pick up the ottoman, sit down on it, and rub his eyes fully awake. You replay the entire situation in your head. Now you are laughing so hard, tears are rolling down your face. Your baby is annoyed as he tries to return to sleep in your arms. You thank God that the situation ended this way instead of the gut-wrenching alternative. You ask your husband what time it is - it's 3am.As you head downstairs to pump at 3:30am, you think to yourself about lessons learned:1) never shut the bedroom door again and test all the doorknobs2) when your child turns himself sideways in his crib, he's perfectly in between the crib alarm sensors and will set off the alarm3) you could just sit on the ottoman, ya know?4) tell everyone to buy this crib alarm, because it WILL wake you up and could save your child's life.5) laughter is good for the soul and I need to do it more often.6) if you try to get any extra rest, your child WILL find a way to wake you up in the most dramatic way possible7) you need more sleep 🤣

I bought this product for my newborn daughter because we were afraid to leave her alone in her crib. A friend had recently lost their baby to SIDS. It was easy to install. The hardest part was the pieces of wood to support the sensors, but you can just buy them on Amazon too. I made mine out of scrap plywood. I was amazed the first night when I got close enough to hear her breathing and noticed that the sensors caught every breath and flinch which is displayed by a green flash on the control unit (which is not as bright as people complain about. I sleep two feet away. Maybe it is a different model). Some people claimed their ceiling fan or airconditioning would set it off. I tested it several times and neither seemed to be enough on the sensors to keep the alarm from going off. Perhaps it is crib placement? The only annoying thing was that I would take her out of the crib and forget to turn it off, but eventually, we got used to pushing the button first. The third night we were using it, the alarm went off in the middle of the night. I jumped up and found she had scooted to a corner. I scooped her up, she jumped, and I put her back in the middle. I then reset the alarm assuming it was a false alarm. The next day when I woke up she had scooted to that corner again but had NOT set the alarm off. The next night the alarm went off in the middle of the night again. This time she was right in the middle. When I touched her she didn't flinch and I noticed that she was not breathing. I shook her she didn't flinch. She didn't jump until I picked her up all the way out of the crib. I am not a doctor. I don't know if she would have started breathing again on her own, or if this device saved her life. I also don't ever care to test it. All I know is she stopped breathing, and 20 seconds is long enough for me. This thing is awesome. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other devices, but it covers the WHOLE crib and I am willing to bet that there is just more money invested in the sensors because they are incredible. This was the best thing we bought for our new baby. I am recommending this to everyone.

We've used this for over a year and love it. When we brought our baby home I would wake up at night and obsessively stare at his chest to make sure he was breathing. It was a constant fear. This was the only thing that would let us sleep comfortably.I researched a bunch of comparable products and chose this one for a few key reasons:--This does not need to be attached to the baby and will not slip off or fall off as the baby moves around.--Electronically speaking, it is a very simple design. There are no wireless sensors or antennas communicating for the system to work. There are just two simple (but very sensitive) low voltage sensors under the crib pad.-- The product also had much higher reviews when I initially bought it, but I think it got an unfair reputation.VERY IMPORTANT:I think this gets a bad wrap because of operator error. You cannot use this product with a ceiling fan on. The sensors are so powerful that it will even pick up your footsteps to and from the crib. If there is an air duct near the crib, the vent must be pointed away. If you take the baby out of the crib and leave the alarm on, and you continue to walk around the room, the alarm will not sound unless you leave the area completely. Remember, this sensor is tuned to detect a tiny human breathing from under 3" of foam.I've had one false alarm in a year, which scared the absolute crap out of me (first solo night with baby, of course). I have to chalk that up to having the sensors on the wire mesh without a flat wooden board below it. Or maybe he crawled away from the sensor? Or, maybe it saved him from a problem? Hard to say, but I would rather one false alarm and 364 nights of sound sleep.One place to improve:The LED indicators on turn on/off don't make sense. I've had it for a year and I still have to think about whether I'm turning it on or off. When you turn it on, it shows a red light, then green blinks for movement. When you turn it off, it shows yellow? Perhaps reverse these two, like a traffic light. Green is good, red is off, yellow starting?

Let me start by saying I have 3 of these. One for travel, one at my in laws and one at home. My daughter has a newton mattress and we switched to the babysense after she started rolling from the snuza. I do not want anything that emits radiation to my LO. I love that the snuza and babysense are battery operated. My mom also has one at her house as well.That being said, I’ve never had issues with the babysense at our house but have had constant issues at my moms and in laws. My LO sleeps in a crib at my mom’s and a newton pack n play at my in-laws. First we thought it was too soft of carpet at my in laws house. So we put plywood underneath. Still wouldn’t work. The monitor was on for over an hour and never went off even though she wasn’t in the room. I pulled it out and put it on the counter and went off on the first try. I’ve checked all the ports and tested all of them and nothing.My mom’s has had similar issues even with a crib. When it works it works great. When it doesn’t work which can be often it’s frustrating.Babysense was kind enough to send a new one to test out. Same issues when on the floor but no issues on the crib with the newton mattress.Still worth it in my opinion just don’t expect it to work if it has to sit on the floor underneath the the newton pack and play, it must be too difficult for the sensors.

I bought this in a moment of postpartum anxiety and could not be more grateful that I did. Our daughter got Covid at 5 months old and this sensor caught when she stopped breathing in the middle of the night, flat on her back in the middle of the mattress and completely silent when we otherwise never would have suspected that anything was wrong. We were able to resuscitate her and she is now a happy and thriving 3 year old. If we have another child, this is the first thing we will put in our nursery.

Our 4 month old son figured out how to roll onto his tummy and decided that’s how he preferred to sleep. With the back is best sleep rule, this made me very nervous and I would spend time repositioning him to his back throughout the night only to have him immediately roll back to his tummy. The expert opinion I read on this differs.. some say once they can roll at all leave them be, other’s said if they can’t roll both ways to put them back on their back. Our son didn’t know how to roll from tummy to back yet, so this made me worry when he slept. My mom said they were instructed to place babies on their tummies to sleep when I was little, so I slept on my tummy WITH a blanket in the crib.. this made me feel a little better, but the safe recommendations are different now than almost 30 years ago. Long story to say that I decided I wanted something to monitor my son’s movement and breathing. After reading reviews on lots of different products, I decided on this one. I liked that it’s battery powered and cords are all contained/connected in the unit and alarm sensor under the mattress where our son can’t grab it. I also liked that it’s used as a medical device in other countries, not the US where I’m from, but it’s nice other countries trust it that much. The sensors are very sensitive. When we did our test after installing it, we found out that we couldn’t have our little floor fan within 10ft of it. Even at 10ft away, if the fan is angled to blow directly on the crib, the sensors will pick it up. I like how sensitive it is since it makes me feel like it really would pick up if our son stopped moving or having breathing movements. I also liked that there were two sensor pads since our son moves around the crib now. This is a big reason I chose this product over others. We have not had the alarm go off in the past month at all (no false alarms or real ones), but every time I test the sensors they go off, so I know the product is working. I test my sensors daily and anytime we changed the crib sheets just to be safe, and they always work. I’ve only forgotten to turn off the sensors a couple times at night during diaper changes... luckily the alarm only woke up my husband and not our son lol. I should add that we have a normal basic Serta baby mattress and it works well with it. We had debated buying a breathable mattress, but those costed hundreds of dollars and even if they work (I’m not fully convinced they do) they wouldn’t alert me to anything.Overall, I highly recommend this product. I know nothing can prevent SIDS, but this product makes me feel way less worried and allows me to sleep better while my tummy sleeping son snoozes away.

As first-time parents, this monitor has been exceptional. It gives us real peace of mind, especially now that our baby sleeps through the night and doesn’t move much.
