Excellent Guide to Arabic Grammar
There are several aspects that distinguish this book from many other books on Arabic grammar. First, it explains the grammar of the Arabic language in a comparative perspective, involving and comparing grammatical terms and structures of both Arabic and English. Second, it takes a "middle path" between Western and Arabic explanatory models of grammar. Such synthesis helps the readers more deeply and accurately understand the internal logic and structure of the Arabic language. Third, it provides (in a clear and systematic form) some grammatical details, which are almost absent in many other books of Arabic grammar in the English language. The other important side of the book is that its author does not literally translate and blindly transfer grammatical concepts from English into Arabic. Its writing style is clear and does not overwhelm the reader with complex linguistic terms that migrate from one grammar book to another. Conversely, the purpose of the textbook is strictly pedagogical. It takes into account the most frequent and pertinent problems which students and learners of the Arabic language usually face. The author sometimes even introduces new terms to better convey the essence of the Arabic grammatical rules. So, the book's goal is to teach and explain in the clearest possible way - not to impress professionals with the complex specialized language. This book would be the best choice for intermediate and advanced students. However, I would strongly advise all beginners to have this book at hand as they can easily find explanations to their questions and use it as convenient grammar reference source.

Ideal reference for intermediate and early advanced students
This is perhaps the best reference book for intermediate and early-advanced students of Arabic. The coverage is thorough (for the intermediate and early advanced levels); the explanations clear and plentiful. All the examples are vocalized and translated. In many of the tables, the points that the author is making in the grammatical explanations are highlighted by using a different color. What the book does not have is exercises and (therefore, of course) a key. It is primarily a reference and thus not suitable as a "Teach yourself Arabic" book. Given the clarity of Professor Alhawary's explanations, I wish he would write an intermediate level textbook, with drills, a key, and audio!

I love this book; it is the only grammatically oriented Arabic book I found in English. It taught me many things! It is concise, simple and deep.

A Well Organized Reference Manual
This is a great book for intermediate level English speaking students wanting to learn Arabic. For professional linguists who focus on terminologies and specifics too much, this is probably not your cup of tea.The book has well organized charts for verb conjugations. It includes all the major topics of Arabic grammar.

A thoroughly comprehensive guide to grammar. It uses difficult terminologies sometimes and the layout could be better but it is still the most useful book for Fus-ha grammar that I have found. It serves well as a reference book.
