Good Old Mushy peas
We love mushy peas! Fish and chips, pie and peas and our favourite steak chips and mushy peas but why oh oh why or why can't you get them in any major supermarket. Thanks Jeff for providing what the big four can't. Could be cheaper though.

grow them!
we use these peas for sprouting, and they make wonderful big shoots. Sometimes we grow them in the garden for shelling peas too; they have a really good flavour when picked young. Marrowfats, though large and strong, are somewhat prone to powdery mildew so you have to grow them fast, provide lots of water, and spray with potassium bicarbonate solution at first sign of spots. The best before dates are 2 years out, so they won't be too tough when cooked, but I've (accidentally) found they will still sprout well after that, at least 4 years.

Good product reasonably priced
The peas are perfect for traditional Northern Irish "soaky peas" ( not mushy, just tender ans eaten with salt and vinegar). The package was wrapped in a brown paper bag, so some of the boxes were battered...but it's hard to damage a dried pea...

A very reliable way of obtaining these hard-to-find "mushy peas"
The major supermarkets seem to think that the only way people like mushy peas is from a ready made tin having paid a premium for the water used to reconstitute them. These are simple to make with a little planning and you can add your own flavour enhancement to taste.

Perfect for British mushy peas
I even planted some this time after soaking them in water overnight. Pleased that every single one sprouted. I think they'll do very well here in the Pacific Northwest. I love mushy peas!

I love my mushy peas!
Batchelors Bigga Dried Peas - 6 x 250gm These peas are very easy to prepare and they're delicious! The dried peas are soaked for 12 hours with the included soaking tablets, and, after draining and rinsing the peas, they're ready to be cooked. As another reviewer has stated, in the last couple of minutes of cooking, the peas reach the proper consistency.I don't add sugar to the peas, but I do add spices or herbs to put a spin on things. The peas are very tasty with the addition of chopped up fresh garlic and onions added to the cooking liquid; I use some kind of stock rather than just plain water. They're even better when finished off with a tablespoon of salted butter being stirred in after being cooked. The mushy peas go great with fish and chips, meat pies, or as a side dish for any kind of meal. One of my favorites is spreading the mushy peas on bread or a baguette topped with fish fingers for a "fish finger sarnie".Yes, I'm a Brit living in the US, and I love my mushy peas! It's a taste of home. Batchelors Bigga Dried Peas - 6 x 250gm

Good flavor
I was unsure about this product having never tasted it before but since I watch a lot of British food shows, thought I’d give it a try and I am thoroughly impressed. Makes the best pea soup.
