Don't feel left out of the party!
Fab little book, bought as a birthday present for a pregnant relative who loves cocktails. Beautiful illustrations and trendy-looking drinks that can be made fairly easily by anyone who already makes cocktails at home, using common mixers blended with bitters and juices. The non-alcoholic Pimms and Pink Fizz recipes are likely to be a big hit (and I think I'll even try them myself!)

Something for everybody
For various reason some people coming around over Christmas do not want to drink alcohol. Some are driving, some abstain and some are on medication as well as the ones that are just lucky enough to be too young.Rather than just offering a con of coke this Mocktails book gives ideas on alternatives that really show you have put some effort in.The Bartenders Guide to Mocktails fits the bill perfectly with a wide range of non alcoholic cocktails from the simple to the exotic but nothing too difficult. I came across terms I had not heard of before such as shrubs (similar to syrups) and Muddler (sort of mashing up).In this Mocktail guide there must be something for everybody and every taste and lots of inspiration. My first try was the very simple Shirley Temple. Just ice, lemon juice, grenadine, sugar syrup and ginger ale but really tasty. My tip is just buy a bag of ice cubes from the supermarket for about a £1 and save a bit of time.

My new go-to resource for non-alcoholic beverages - I favour the creamy ones...
We love a good cocktail/mocktail in our house, and often resort to the internet to create various iterations of things, but so much nicer to have a physical guide in front of you to flick through.Whilst mocktails by their very nature forego the evils of alcohol (who am I kidding, it’s great!), we don’t always need to have alcohol in our drinks in order to enjoy a good experimental beverage, and there are plenty in this handy compact book to choose from. I tend to favour cream-based cock/mocktails over the typically sharper citrus ones, and there are a decent spread of drinks to choose from. I am a bit weirded out by the use of raw egg in some drinks, but then I’m not really a fan of egg anyway. I’d probably drink one if I didn’t know what was in it though, but then without the inhibition-reducing effects of alcohol, I’m less likely to go for a drink that I was less sure of…This book is nicely laid out and the instructions are easy to follow. There is a clear picture of every drink of note and the style of language is simple and uncomplicated. For a price of £8.75 (at time of review) for the hardback, I think that is fair value and a worthy addition to the drinking cabinet.

Full of interesting ideas for those on the wagon
Mocktails – mock-cocktails – are becoming really trendy these days and the editors at Love Food have produced this useful Bartender's Guide to these popular non-alcoholic drinks. Mocktails are now regularly served in many bars and restaurants and make a more interesting alternative to traditional non-alcoholic drinks such as fruit juice and cola. There is a wide selection of mocktails featured here, everything from non-alcoholic interpretations of cocktail classics to fruit cordials and iced teas, and proves that a drink does not necessarily need to contain alcohol to be worth drinking. This book is very nicely produced with this hardcover edition running to 192 pages; “The Bartender's Guide to Mocktails: Create On-Trend, Non-alcoholic Drinks with Attitude” was recently published by Parragon Books Ltd on the 21st of November 2017. Currently a little under a nine pounds from Amazon this book could be a handy stocking-filler for anyone entertaining drivers, non-drinkers or for anyone looking for a more healthy alternative to alcohol during the Festive Period.
