As the directions are in Japanese, I am not sure if there is a warning notice about getting the paste on the skin. But I have used my fingers with the paste and am still standing. It does contain a mild insecticide and mild anti-fungal. So, I am afraid my answer is born out of experience and not scientific fact. I have only one bonsai tree, so I do not use a large amount of the paste regularly.

Is there any expiration date on the packaging or tube?

No expiration date unless it is in Japanese. I have used this same pruning compound for years. I have never known is to ‘go bad’. I use the same tube for years at a time. As long as you cap it after using it, one tube should last you for years if you are using it on Bonsai trees. It doesn’t spoil.

Can this be used on all types of trees? I used it on a crape myrtle.

i only used it for my bonsai so far, but have had very good results. i used it on a korean dwarf lilac and it worked great.

Can you use this on adult bamboo with success?

This product works very well on trees without turning the scar black. I do not know how you would use it on bamboo. I believe an individual stalk grows at its top so cutting it would stop its growth, the base rhizone would continue to grow.

Great Bonsai sealer!

I have a 7-year-old Chinese elm bonsai tree and I let a long branch grow to help grow the trunk width. This sealer helped without infecting the tree in any way and it's a great product from Japan

Soothing salve for my trees

I've been using this tree paste for many years, both after pruning branches and when storms come through and prune them for me. We recently had a storm with heavy snow take large branches down on two favorite specimen trees. After using a hand saw to clean the wounds I slathered them with this paste. One was a weeping birch tree where the sap was rising so I was very worried it was going to lose a lot of moisture. I put two thick coats of this paste on the cut branch and it stopped weeping that evening and looks to be sealing nicely. I will continue to use this paste on all of my trees.

The product it self seems ok, I wouldn’t buy the tube wound seal one again as it has a split in the tube and it leaked in my bonsai box getting all my tools and wire sticky. If they done this product in a tub I would buy it again.
