Does the job (but put enough in)
Had a stubborn fungus gnat problem with my office plant (for months on end) and this finally fixed it. I started with the sticky pads, which got hundreds, but there were still a stubborn contingent that remained. I used this soil topper in tandem with some of the sticky pads, and I think this is what has finally worked. A few notes: * Make sure you use enough. I put a thin layer in, and it didn't work. I only got proper results when I put maybe 2-3 cm in (you need more than you think). * I made the mistake of watering from the top (over the soil topper) rather than the bottom. Don't do this -- it did damage the plant a bit and I lost some of the lower leaves.

It worked!
We can now be in peace! The fungus gnats were driving us mad. At one point we couldn't even have our teas, drinks or cereal without a fungus gnat flying inside it. We started with the sticky traps which were good for keeping the adult flies at bay. However, this didn't stop the cycle and with the adult flies that weren't trapped they were still able to lay their eggs in the soil. We got 3 bags of this for 2 of our problem plants, and ended up using 2 and half bags. We were very generous with the covering as we wanted the flies to have no chance of getting back in the soil. It's been 4 days and we haven't seen one fungus gnat! Only difference now is, I'm no longer able to water my plants from the top so that the stones keep dry. I now bottom water my plants for 40 minutes, which actually works out better for them. I also got a complement from a guest saying how nice the stones look on the soil (they didn't know what it was really for haha!) Very happy with this and I would definitely recommend!

Didn't go far
I bought two bags of this. Works out expensive as it didn't go far. I have lots of house plants. Ended up having to buy a 5l tub from another seller. Hope it works to keep my fungus gnats away. Easy to use. I've watered plant from water in the tray so the gravel stays dry.

Inconsistent
The first two times my husband purchased this it was great. What I got with the third order looked the same but clumps together and hasn’t been nearly as effective as the previous batches which has been really disappointing, especially since other types that I’ve tried previously were completely ineffective (really dusty and impossible to un-clump - at least this one you can still separate with a fork)

This stuff works
Fungus gnats are quite pathetic as far as flies go, they can’t even really fly that well. So it’s a bit of an embarrassment that they managed to take over so many of my houseplants. Vastly irritating, very proficient at laying eggs (200 a pop, apparently, outrageous!). Tried the yellow sticky things, spray and pesticide that claimed to kill them and the eggs. No luck, they kept coming. It was like Helms Deep. What can men do against such reckless hate, indeed. After weeks was on the verge of throwing the plants out. Tried this as a Hail Mary - worked within a couple of days. You need to add a generous layer, probably more than it says on the back, and just bear in mind you’ll need to water from the bottom or get one of those pépettes to make sure the plant is getting something. But since using this I haven’t seen any more of these jokers, and it’s removed their ability to lay eggs in the soil. Presumably there’s some sort of fungus gnat burial ground under the topping now, which I’m not super excited to reveal. But I actually don’t mind the aesthetic of this stuff at all so will likely leave it and just pretend it’s not there.

This works for a while....
Original review: I had loads of fungus gnats on my kitchen basil...I tried EVERYTHING to no avail until I tried this. Took a little of the soil out the top (maybe 2 cm) and replaced with this...watered from bottom. By the next day there were fewer and I could see the dead gnats on the top. 10 days later and not a gnat in sight! UPDATE: They came back! With a vengeance. The topper granules were still in place (and refreshed) and I had been bottom watering bit woke up and they were as bad as ever! I've added the granules to the dry saucer too as think they were coming out from the bottom...not helped.

It did the trick
I recently repotted my rubber plant that I'd had for years! After a few days, I noticed these little flies around in the house everywhere and was horrified to find out that the new indoor earth I had used for repotting must have been infested with these flies. I first left the plant in the porch thinking that after a couple of weeks, they would die off as it was quite cold in there, but they were thriving! Then, I bought some of those sticky traps, but they only seemed catch a couple. I was thinking of getting rid of my rubber plant, but really didn't want to, so I went to a garden centre for advice and they said to try a layer of grit. I got home and looked to see what Amazon had, and as a last resort, bought this plant topper. I am extremely happy to say, this did the trick and there are no more of these pesky little flies around anymore. Thumbs up.

It works!
After trying various other methods to rid my lovely indoor lemon plant of those pesky little black flies, this is the one that worked! From seeing them hum around the plant and constantly snatching at the annoying blighters, I can now watch TV in peace without them crawling over the screen and flying around my face. Little b*ggers have now relocated to an upstairs plant so I’m buying more! One bag covered a decent sized area of soil in a big pot so another will do smaller pots at risk of becoming the next fungus gnat hotel. It stops the larvae from hatching as I understand so it took a couple of days watching the adults hang out on the ceiling before they all eventually disappeared (I assume their life span is fairly short). Gawd these flies are so annoying, very glad to have found a safe solution to be rid of them :))))
