Almost everything they advertise, definitely an A, but not A+
Incredible quality, higher temperatures, longer burn times, and reusable to an extent. Everything they say in their ads is true. Faster lighting, no off smells, great value... my only complaint is the inconsistent size. A good portion of the several boxes I've gone through now have lots of solid sized chunks, but easily 30% of the box are very small chunks that fall right through the grates of both my chimney starters and the fire grate on my Weber Performer grill. If it falls directly through to the ash pan, it does me no good.

Amazing charcoal
This stuff is amazing, super hot and burned for two hours before i watered it down and still kept about 50% of size after cook ! We used it for korean bbq and it was perfect. Only used 1/3 of the chimney. What amazed me was no fire flare ups when oil or fat dripped on the coal, thats crazy!!! There would be smoke but just fan it away and you get that smokey taste, yum. How I started the charcoal: 1. I put it on top of side burner of my gas grill, max heat for 10-15minutes. 2. Finished it with some fire starters that lasted 5 minutes, i rotated the charcoal so all the black parts turned white. In total took 20minutes. Perfect for korean bbq, gonna try it for skewers next time!

Good quality charcoal for Yakitori - somewhat wide range of sizing
It burns nicely - clean, smokeless, low ash, and hot. And it can be reused easily by cutting off oxygen to it. The only thing I dislike is the wide range of sizes - from small pebbles (great for filling out your coal bed in yakitori grilling - a tight coal bed helps reduce flare-ups) to pieces too large for the small Firesense yakitori grill. Overall I like it though and will buy again whenever it's good value.

Burns Very Hot
I purchased this to see if it makes a difference in my Blaze Kamado to maintain the high temperature for my steaks. Binchotan is known to burn hotter and with less smoke and this one did not disappoint. My grill thermometer reached close to 900 F creating the perfect sear and flavor profile. It is pricey compared to hard lump charcoal, but it makes up for it in longer burn time at higher temperatures, so it goes a long way. I am using this only on my high dollar cuts so far and it has not disappointed. Packaging is creative and convenient.

Works great!
I can't afford most of the Japanese style charcoals for Yakinikiu so I've tried the more affordable alternatives. This one is very good, can't even tell when its burning but it cooks significantly hotter and steady and lasts 3+ hours. Tastes great too. Highly recommended

This is not binchotan charcoal!
Absolutely stunning that Jealous Devil would attempt to pass this charcoal off a binchotan. It isn't made using the proper process. It isn't made from the proper wood. It doesn't even look like binchotan. Plus, real binchotan will ring like wind chimes if you tap two pieces together. This charcoal just thuds. Avoid this at all costs.

Only 20% large pieces charcoals on top of the box
When I opened the box, there were only a few large pieces of charcoal on top, and over 80% of the rest were very small pieces that fall through the charcoal grate. The heat is also much weaker compared to real Binchotan, so it doesn’t sear food very well. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this again.

Great, but...
This charcoal is great... long lasting at high temperatures adding great flavor. But the box has few large pieces and way too many small pieces that fall through the charcoal grate.
