History: From the Dawn of Civilization to the Present Day

I could hardly believe when I took this out of the box - it has surpassed all expectations. Beautiful cover and great 'thud' effect! The quality of explanation and use of photos, drawings and quotes is exemplary. It covers everything from the dawn of time, and includes social history as well as rulers and events. I bought this for my 10 year old daughter and she loves it. It would be great for adults too, wanting an overview of a period of time or significant event. One to pour over for hours and treasure for years.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my 12 year old niece who loves history, I’m sure she will be very impressed with it. It looks great, colourful and very informative, and much better than learning from a computer screen.

Wow!This is a serious book, and it weighs a ton!To be completely honest in this review, I am a big DK fan - period. I have managed to build up a reasonable collection of these books, and each one in it's own way is utterly absurd.When you open one of these books your senses are assaulted by the wonderful array of photographs, drawings and sketches, and then you have the fulsome and comprehensive text to dig into at your leisure. This is a book to be dipped into and admired as and when the opportunity presents.This particular book is probably my favourite to date - comprehensive, massively interesting, hugely informative and beautifully presented.This book is simply a joy.And, as an added bonus, any transporting of this weighty tome will do much for one's muscle tone!Highly recommended.

Bought as a present for my grandson who loves history. There is a lot of information to read but the book layout is a bit confusing

Well, this is one of the best book that I have read about history.Having said that, I need to mention a few more things.Firstly, this is a very general book and if you want to study any particular subject in details, then this may not be the book for you.Secondly, this book is not about any particular topic or country or an event.And lastly, if you are studying for a degree in history, this book maybe OK on the first year for overall overview but for your second and third year I doubt if this is going be that much use.Having said that, I study my first year history at university and as I did not do history in school, it was this book that put everything into context for me. I have to read it several times. and I think for my first year, no other book had so much impact on my understanding of history as this book.

Thrilled with this wonderful book. I would expect to pay double the price for a book of this quality. Makes an excellent gift.

Amazon's delivery is good as usual, and the packaging was really nice,And the most important is content and quality of the book is just mind blowing, all you need to know about the world from our ancestors to Wars that changed the world is compressed in this book! it is the best reference book of timeline of world's history till now!must have book,DK never disappoint! (but slightly disappointed because author didn't included important factors and pictures from excavation of indus valley, book has only one page on indus valley civilization. And, may be that's because i m indian and i wanted to know more about it otherwise overall book is fabulous !!)
