AQA A Level Chemistry Year 1 and AS Student Book (Collins AQA A Level Science)

Poor
Riddled with errors and you're required to print off a 49 page document to see the answers to the summary assessments, which is very difficult to decipher as they haven't bothered to put page numbers next to the answers. Poor explanations, but it's usable in conjunction with other textbooks. A shame that the official AQA textbooks are so poor.

Average book, not bad not great
Advantages- covers topics that are not perfectly covered on the official book- the pictures are good and is very colourful- explains some processes amazinglyDisadvantage- the layout is like a newspaper. I m not a fan of the layout- sons information is poorly covered. This book is best used as a second book rather than first- I don't like wordings but that's my personal opinion

it's a great buy for the new spec
This is my 9th year teaching A-Level Chemistry and I must say that over the years I've increasingly preferred using Collins textbooks over Oxford / Nelson Thornes (am considering purchasing the Hodder textbook, but haven't had a chance yet and thus no comparison to that publisher can be made). With the change in specification this September (2015), I've found the Collins textbook to live up to my expectations, providing updated applications of the chemistry pupils are learning, helpful fully worked examples, examiner tips and a wide range of questions - long and short answers as well as multiple choice. Additionally, there are sections devoted to the practical and maths aspects of the course (not in previous additions), complete with extension questions. The only downside, which Oxford DOES have, is a map of key information for each chapter. Regardless, it's a great buy for the new spec.
