Breg T Scope Premier Post-Op Knee Brace

This is my 3rd brace and here is why: Following quad tendon surgery, I woke up with the $450 DonJoy (top of the picture) brace provided by the hospital. It is a very good and heavy duty brace that I also still use occasionally for travel. The only reason I started looking for another brace was because 1) its hard to sleep in with the big bar/flex adjustment dial on the side and 2) it did tend to slowly slip down when walking (even with crutches). I do wear shorts, but think with pants and a belt on under the brace any of these braces would hold position pretty good. It just hard to wear pants for awhile after surgery and you want the scar to get air to heal. The 2nd brace (middle in picture) cost $34 on Amazon. It's non-adjustable for flex, so only good for keep a leg straight and that works for me. It was purchased primarily because 1)sleeping (smooth side with no adjustment dial) and 2) it cheap. So it is only used for sleeping, because it easily slips down the leg when standing or walking. Now my 3rd brace was the $130 BREG. This brace has been my daily brace, except when sleeping, because of the following: 1) it is much better at not slipping than the other two 2) it has better ventilation (live in Florida) 3) its lightweight and 4) the easiest to put on. When I first got the BREG I thought the pads were cheap because did not have a soft feel, but later realized it is much better for holding to leg than a soft pad would. Also noticed that it take a few times adjusting to get it right or you can end up bruising your leg wearing and walking all day. Really got to wear it a little, then keep fine tuning to get it perfect. I can now comfortably wear all day. It also has the flex adjustment, so will be able to keep using this once rehab starts. Also all it can be slept in, especially if a back sleeper. I am a side sleeper, so dial is bothersome. However, I have napped a couple times with it on. Overall, very pleased with this brace for daily activities and use the cheap one to sleep.

For knees that hyper-extend these work excellent. I wish I had found them sooner. A little thicker and softer pads would be nice and a little padding to stop the click when you reach the extension stop would would make these just about perfect. I had to put a 1/2 thick rubber pad on the inside to prevent it from putting too much pressure on my knee but that is just specific to me. It stays in place like it should with or without the extra pad. It has prevented me from having another surgery so far.

My son had surgery and this brace was perfect. He was not happy to have to wear it but it fit well and was easy to get on and off.

The price is good compared to what I could get at my doctor's. It rarely slipped down my leg on me. I could wear it with pants or on my bare skin with shorts or a skirt. Easy to adjust and lock and unlock the hinges. I had to wear it during the summer and after a few weeks, it did start to smell a little like a gym bag. I had to order some extra padding because it just got too funky. Other than that, a great product. I torn my medial meniscus recently. Instead of doing arthroscopic surgery right away, my doctor suggested that I try physical therapy to strengthen and stabilize knee. I decided to give it a try first before subjecting myself to the risks inherent in surgery. Unfortunately, I was struggling with knee stability to the point that it was difficult to walk (and I live in a city where walking is essential and crutches are nearly impossible to use). My doctor suggested buying a knee immobilizing brace that would allow me to lock my leg in a straight-leg position when walking, but then would allow me to unlock my knee so that it could bend and my leg could rest naturally while I rested/sat. This brace was great! I wore it for two months, locking my leg straight when I walked (so I walked like a pirate with a peg leg) and then unlocked my knee so that I could bend it up to 90 degrees when sitting. My knee has stabilized and strenghtened because of my physical therapy exercises and the stability the brace offered and I no longer require surgery. I'm walking normally brace-free. The brace has multiple ways that you can adjust the fit so that it doesn't slide down your leg. It allows you to adjust the minimum and maximum flexion and extension for your knee. The hinges are easily locked and unlocked. I am 4' 11.5" inches tall and I was able to wear it, but my dad, who is 6', easily wore the same brace a few years ago when he had his knee replaced.

I have a closet full of knee braces. Some are for specific issues (e.g., dislocated knee) while others are for general tendinitis issues. This Breg knee brace is my first Breg -- I'm using it to prevent hyper extension of my knee and lateral/sideways movement in my knee -- it excels at doing this better than any other knee brace I've tried. I just had a meniscectomy to remove part of a torn meniscus in my knee. While no knee brace is recommended for this surgery (which is different topic I don't understand), I'm grateful I have this particular brace. This particular Breg brace is fully adjustable depending on your height. Normally when I read "one size fits all", I say "Yah, right... sure it is." But in this case the Breg really is. I'm 6'2" and I have it only partially extended... I could extended it more or less. My 5'2" 10 year old could wear this if needed. I also like the velcro straps. Each of the straps lock-in BOTH the back side and the front-side of the leg. What I mean are 2 things: 1) unlike other braces that have only straps on the front side, Breg has the strap on the back side too. and 2) Each strap's back side locks separate from the front side. There is also convenient velcro at each strap's end to secure the loose end of the strap after tightening. Having 4 straps that lock both front & back and on a brace that can be extended the full length of the leg means that when you restrict knee angle movement (extension and/or compression), the leg really is restricted. The Breg has "stops" on each side of the knee for both extension and compression. Yes, one of each on the left side and one of each on the other side... that is, 4 stops total. When the user synchronizes their settings between sides of the knee (because there are stops on both sides of the knee), this ensures there is no additional give/flex -- that is, your knee does in fact stop where you want it to stop. Finally, the padding is removable for fine tuning placement or washing. It's no wonder that this Breg model is specified by doctors/hospitals. I highly recommend it. Note: If you have a dislocated knee, you need a different type of brace that braces the patella (knee cap). This Breg brace is not designed for that (but I suspect Breg has braces specifically for that type of injury).

Purchased this brace after about a month of wearing a post-op knee stabilizer that I was sent home from my surgery. Pros The T-scope premier brace fits snugly around my leg and is fully adjustable length-wise and around the width of my leg as well to stabilize my knee. The T-scope brace came with good instructions for adjusting to fit the users leg. The instructions are 10-14 steps and, if followed correctly, the user will be able to correctly fit and wear the brace safely. The brace is aesthetically pleasing compared to other styles in my opinion! Cons The brace is a bit heavier than my SureFit brace (which is made of mostly felt padding, Velcro straps and the metal part of the brace) but in the grand scheme of things the slightly heavier weight will prove to be beneficial as this will make the leg muscles work harder to hold it up and therefore make the recovery slightly better in the long run! I have seen some reviews on here regarding the brace ‘slipping down to ankle’ or slipping in general. I have been wearing jeans underneath this brace and the brace has yet to slip down on me, and I’ll also add that I am NOT tightening the straps so much that my circulation is getting cut off. If the brace is slipping I would consider the user trying to wear a different material under the brace so as to add a little more friction, or, try the brace fitting instructions over again to get a better fit on the leg!

I fractured my patella and the brace provided by medicare (@$640!!) was trash compared to this one. I like that this brace EASILY adjusts in length, circumference and flexion. The dial at the knee joint is super-easy to use. Once you get everything set to your fit you don't need to keep re-adjusting it. It holds your personal settings and you can easily snap it on or unsnap it for removal. All braces will gradually slip down the leg over time (due to gravity and movement), but this one (when properly adjusted) stayed in place for me much longer than the the 2 previous products I tried. This Breg brace is made of good quality materials, has no rough edges or other sources of irritation, and did not deteriorate at all from wear and tear over two months of 24/7 use. It was recommended to me by my physical therapist who used one herself and then loaned it to friends who got good use from it after her recovery. Great item. Glad I bought it.

Although this is the brace that my doctor's office recommends - I had a hard time with it. (In all fairness, I could have possibly had a hard time with any brace.) I'm on the petite side and this was constantly sliding on me. But if I made it tighter then the circle pieces that sit on each side of your knee would feel like it was clamping my knee to the point of pain (beyond the pain from surgery). I had to have PT adjust every time I went which shouldn't have been. Again, could be due to my size but just wanted to give my opinion as I appreciate when others write reviews.
