The groundbreaking book that revolutionized exercise nutrition and performance for female athletes, now freshly updated Women are not small men. Stop eating and training like one. In ROAR , exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist Stacy T. Sims, PhD, teaches you everything you need to know to adapt your nutrition, hydration, and training to work with (rather than against) your unique female physiology. Complete with goal-specific meal plans and nutrient-packed recipes to optimize body composition, ROAR contains personalized nutrition advice for all stages of training and recovery. Customizable meal plans and strengthening exercises come together in a comprehensive plan to build a rock-solid fitness foundation through gaining lean muscle where you need it most, strengthening your bones, and boosting your power and endurance. This revised edition includes a wealth of new research developments, expanded recommendations based on those findings, and updates to reflect the changing landscape of women's sports. Because a woman's physiology changes over time, entire chapters are devoted to staying strong and active through pregnancy and menopause. No matter what your sport is--running, cycling, field sports, triathlons--this book will empower you with the nutrition and fitness knowledge you need to be in the healthiest, fittest, strongest shape of your life. Review: Such a valuable read โ every active woman needs this - I absolutely love this book. Itโs honestly become my go-to reference for understanding how to train, fuel, and recover as a woman. Iโve read a lot around fitness and nutrition, but ROAR stands out because itโs specifically written for women โ and it explains things that most mainstream fitness advice completely ignores. The way it breaks down how our bodies respond to training, nutrition, and recovery throughout the menstrual cycle is so eye-opening. I kept thinking, โWhy arenโt we taught this sooner?โ Itโs written in a way thatโs clear and practical, without being too technical, and Iโve already started adjusting my own training and nutrition based on what Iโve learned. It covers everything from strength training and hydration to hormones and performance โ but in a way that makes sense even if youโre not a professional athlete. I think itโs just as useful for someone who works out a few times a week as it is for someone in a serious training block. Would definitely recommend this to any woman who wants to get more out of her workouts and feel better doing it. A real game-changer โ and something Iโll keep coming back to. Review: Must read - I absolutely love this book! I purchased two different ones from Dr. Stacy Sims and there's some overlap, but I highly recommend both! While the Next Level book focuses a lot on menapouse, the ROAR is more generic and I believe every woman should read this regardless of age or activity level. It's full of information about how women's bodies work, how we change over time, what we can do to stay healthy and active throughout different life stages. Both books have a great combo of theory and practical advice around nutrition and physical activity with detailed plans and examples.

Full of lots of information but it was a little bit more advanced than what I was looking for although I did take away lots of useful information.

This book so brilliant. So much detail and information, but also key points highlighted - you can dip into it or read the whole thing and the author is known for being an expert in this field. Highly recommend

We are not just small men
This is a really helpful book for women of all ages. It has plenty of science but itโs understandable and relatable. I have learnt a lot and will change some of my workouts to maximise my body and fitness. Itโs a book that I will keep beside me to dip into as my circumstances change.

Hard to digest while audible. Advanced athletes.
Not appropriate for audible. I wish I bought a real book. Unfortunately cannot return for some reason. Also very advanced, for dedicated athletes.
