This is my new travel keyboard and here's why
I really, really hate to type on a touch screen keyboard. I have pickle fingers and constantly mash the wrong keys. So I wanted a Bluetooth keyboard. My go to for a long time has been my Logi MX M half height blue switch mechanical keyboard. I LOVE that keyboard, but when I travel, it is rather bulky and the key caps pop offer. Also, it doesn't really fit in a coat pocket.Once upon a time Microsoft made an incredibly thin, functional Bluetooth keyboard but it is out of production. So I've been looking for a replacement. I tried three of the highest rated keyboards on Amazon and I settled on the ProtoArc XK03 and here's why.First, it is the best compromise between form factor, comfort, quality, and functionality. The Full Size double fold ProtoArk XK01 is a nice keyboard but it is HUGE for folding keyboard, about ⅔ the size of my Logi. The Samsers is definitely the smallest, lightest and thinnest of the bunch BUT, it just has a very cheap feel to it, and the plastic hinges and non-uniform button sizes (Y key in particular) made for a lot of typing errors. The XK03 in contrast is a) ergonomic. B) the keys are all a uniform full size. C) there is no weird plastic hinge obstructing the keys. D) it is about the same thickness as the Samsers folded, (but a little longer). E) it will definitely fit in a jacket pocket and possibly my jeans back pocket -but I'm not sure I want to risk that. F) The quality - as determined by key travel, touch, and key size matches just about every Bluetooth keyboard I've tried that isn't mechanical. So, the ProtoArc XK03 is the winner for me. Also, because this is used mostly for my iPhone, the odd Escape key behavior seems to have changed since some earlier reviews. Fn+esc works just fine and I prefer the back tic ` as the default, and tilde as the Shift character. (I use Obsidian a LOT).Plus did I mention it's ergonomic? The curved keyboard layout did not take long to get used to and now it feels quite natural. Plus the price made it good value for money for me. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. All in all I'm super happy with it.

A great keyboard if you don't mind a little customization
I work remotely, and so a big perk is that I can pack up and work somewhere else for a week or so if, say, my partner and I want to spend a week in her hometown of Montreal or in Hawaii. Between foldable HD travel monitors and this keyboard, I have a travel office that packs into my carry on.As others have noted, however, the setup for what is usually the escape key is terrible, but there are ways it can be overriden on whatever OS you use., If you like the ergo-travel thing, this might help you:- For Mac, you can use Karabiner Elements, which is a 3rd party app that remaps keys. Understanding the configuration definitions can be a little tricky, but it's pretty robust and been around for a long time. The other nice thing is that you can attach key remaps to specific keyboards, and so you don't have turn it on/off when switching between the ProtoArc, the laptop keyboard, and/or your normal external keyboard.- For Linux, there are low-level systems to remap keycodes with systemd-hwdb and udevadm. Works wonderfully.- For Windows, you can install PowerTools (which is actually a Microsoft supplied set of tools and apps - they don't install it by default because most people don't need them). In there, there is a Keyboard Manager, which you turn on and remap the keys. The remapping interface is really intuitive, but unlike Karabiner Elements, it's not aware of specific devices and so you have to turn the Keyboard Manager on/off when switching Keyboards. For PowerTools Keyboard Manager, here's the set up to Make Escape the default function, Shift + Esc still gives you the tilde (~) which is normal, and the Fn + Esc or Win + Esc give you the backtick:In the Remap A Key section:1. Set` to Esc2. Set "Browser Home" (really the Window key) to `In the Shortcuts Section (Note: shortcut combinations are applied after the Remaps, so you need to use what the keys will be, not what Protoarc set them up to be originally):1.a. Set (Shift Left) + Esc to (Shift Left) + ` (this gets back the tilde)1.b. Set (Shift Right) + Esc to (Shift Right) + ` (this also gets back the tilde)2. Set (Win Left) + Esc to ` (this is the alt command for a backtick)Obviously other combinations may feel more natural to you, but this works for me!

Great keyboard with some layout compromises
ProtoArc is a great keyboard, very slim and light. The keys are large which suits to me as they are easy to push and they make extremely satisfying clicky sound. You don't experience poking finger into mud like feeling. The battery is sufficient. I'm using the keyboard for a month and still didn't have to charge it. The connection with the devices (max 3) is fast and smooth. I'm combining windows and macOS devices and it is usable for both environments. However it has also some cons. The producer of the keyboard decided to remove the function keys row entirely and squeeze the F buttons into the numbers alongside with hot key functions which wasn't very wise. You have three functions on a single key. Using F keys with Fn+Shift key isn't particularly intuitive. Especially in case of Escape which is very useful key on Windows but usable only with other two keys (Fn+Shift). Considering that the keyboard isn't programable and you can't change the layout according tou your needs, this wasn't a good move. If the kayboard had at least a tiny F keys row, it would be absolutely perfect.
