I owned the original Dinky version in the late 1960s, that was a great toy, I loved it! This Corgi version is truly an excellent model and I love it! The two are not the same, the Corgi is smaller and lighter and would not have survived the 'adventures' the Dinky had to. However The Corgi has a much better paint job, it has accurate wheels/tyres (I hated this on the Dinky! I was a very demanding 10 year old!) and it is everything I could wish for, I would not be as happy with a 100% copy of the Dinky now. Then and now I love the SPV design, it's the best hardware Gerry Anderson designed, just perfect! Don't ask me how the missile or door compare, never used either on the Corgi, don't care, I'm not 10 anymore. I hope this helps, seriously though it doesn't matter how old you are, or even if you've ever seen the Dinky version. If you love the SPV, you just gotta have it!

Had the dinky version as a child but these days the prices to replace it for one in decent condition are a bit on the high side. Enter Corgi with this reissue which is equally as good and with all the features of the original at a fraction of the price.

Very nicely detailed, however the missile door does not operate when the front suspension is depressed unless the door is pushed by hand. I was going to return but decided that as I’m 60 plus and not 6 I’m unlikely to be ‘playing’ with this feature 😂

Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle! Press the side and a seated Captain Scarlet emerges. Caterpillar tracks drop from the rear of vehicle and it fires rockets. What’s not to like for Gerry & Sylvia Anderson fans?

I wanted one of these in 1968 but as a 7 year old my pocket money wouldn’t stretch to 18/6d. 57 years later I am beaming to have received this treasured item!

Brilliant SPV press down on front missile flap opens and fires side door open with captain scarlet inside just love it as you lose these things when growing up I will treasure this one .

La serie Capitan Scarlet and the Myisterions in "Supermarionation", fu creata da Gerry and Sylvia Anderson nel 1967-68 e andò in onda in TV in oltre 40 paesi (fu trasmessa anche in Italia da Rai2 qualche anno dopo). L'azione si svolgeva nel 2068 (cento anni nel futuro) e si incentrava sulla guerra tra la Spectrum (un'organizzazione mondiale per la sicurezza) e i Mysterions, una razza di marziani, che hanno giurato vendetta contro i terrestri, a seguito di un attacco effettuato per errore. Al comando della Spectrum era il Capitano Scarlet (che aveva per l'appunto un'uniforme di colore rosso), reso immortale grazie al potere autocurativo dei Mysterion. Tra gli altri protagonisti (sempre marionette), c'era il Capitano Blu, la cui voce era quella dell'attore Ed Bishop, universalmente noto per aver impersonato il Comandante Straker in una delle più famose serie degli Anderson: UFO. Ed Bishop, che in quel periodo non se la passava proprio bene economicamente, disse in un intervista che, quando gli consegnavano il copione di un nuovo episodio da registrare, lui lo scorreva subito all'ultima pagina, per vedere se il suo personaggio era ancora vivo. I soldi che guadagnava prestando la voce al Capitano Blu gli permettevano di pagare il mutuo della casa... Torniamo alla serie: la Spectrum utilizzava diversi mezzi per contrastare i marziani, tra i quali una Patrol Car rossa (realizzata dalla Dinky), una "Cloudbase", una sorta di portaerei volante, un Maximum Security Vehicle (anch'esso realizzato dalla Dinky), un Angel Interceptor (una sorta di caccia a reazione, realizzato in kit dalla Airfix) e, infine, lo Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle SPV. Io, da ragazzo, non conoscevo molto bene questa serie, ma ero un grande appassionato di UFO e conservo i modellini della Dinky Toys dell'Interceptor (quello che sparava il "suppostone" contro i dischi volanti) e lo Shado2, una sorta di carro armato che sparava missili. Invece, non ho mai posseduto i modelli Dinky di Capitan Scarlet. Per caso, girando sul sito della Hornby che detiene, tra gli altri, anche il marchio Corgi, ho scoperto che dal un paio d'anni la Corgi realizza una riproduzione dell'SPV e ho deciso di comprarlo. La confezione, in scatola di cartoncino e plastica trasparente è fatta molto bene e protegge il modello da eventuali urti accidentali. Il modello in sé è ben riprodotto; dovrebbe essere in scala 1/36 come il resto della produzione Corgi (e Dinky) ma credo sia un po' più piccolo, soprattutto se messo a confronto con la Rolls Royce di Miss Penelope che dovrebbe essere in scala 1/36. Sul davanti del modellino si trova uno sportellino dietro il quale si può caricare (a molla) un piccolo "missile" di plastica rossa. L'azionamento dello sparo si effettua schiacciando la parte anteriore del modello verso il basso (nel vecchio modello Dinky, il meccanismo a molla si azionava premendo un pulsante bianco sul tetto). In verità, il meccanismo Corgi non è perfetto e richiede vari tentativi prima di riuscire a bloccare il missile. Premendo invece sulla parte sinistra del tetto, identificata da una striscia di colore rosso, si aziona lo sportello laterale che fa comparire il Capitano Scarlet in senso opposto a quello di marcia. L'SPV si guidava infatti contromarcia, con i piloti che azionavano uno sterzo guardando uno schermo televisivo. Anderson giustificò questa "stranezza" con una motivazione di sicurezza: in caso di incidente, l'urto sarebbe stato assorbito dal sedile e i piloti non sarebbero stati sbalzati in avanti (non c'erano le cinture di sicurezza e tanto meno gli airbag). Una curiosità: i motori dell'SPV erano alimentato da batterie all'idrogeno (le stesse utilizzate in quegli anni dal programma spaziale Apollo) che consentivano al mezzo di raggiungere la ragguardevole velocità di 200 miglia orarie (oltre 320 Km/h). In conclusione: un bel giocattolo che, a costo contenuto, ci consente di sognare di essere tornati bambini...

Very good replica of the original Dinky made 60 years ago. There are differences to the Dinky, such as size, the corgi is smaller. The antenna at the rear of the SPV are not as good. To access Captain Scarlet, instead of pressing the “button or leaver” on the top of the Dinky, it is now one of the roof panels above the door. When he does appear, Captain Scarlet is now a permanent fixture, gone are the days of him falling out and getting lost. From memory, the other actions such as pressing either side of the missile hatch, 1, opens the hatch, 2, press again and the missile fires. Be warned, it goes some distance. The missiles are now black in colour compared to the original white colour, though you now get 2 missiles. All in all I’m very happy with it as it works out cheaper than the versions of the Dinky models you see on eBay that require a total refurbishment. Will this model satisfy the purist, I don’t think so. But for someone who wants a reminder of a simpler time and now knows how to look after their toys, it cannot be beaten.
