Clemence Poesy, Stephen Dillane. A French couple is abducted from the Eurotunnel and a plane crashes in the Channel to kick off this dark, tense second season. Commander Wassermann and DCI Roebuck must investigate these strange cases and more as they police the divide between Britain and Europe. 8 episodes on 3 Blu-ray Discs. 2016/color/6 hrs., 40 min/TV-MA/widescreen. Review: Raises the Ante - Even Better Than the First Series and We Thought That Was Good! - Madeleine and Robert Fournier look forward to a holiday in France, taking their car through the Chunnel with Madeleine's young daughter Chloe. They drive onto the train with other cars and the huge doors shut. Suddenly, the lights go out. All we can tell is that Madeleine and Robert are forced out of the car as someone shouts, "Not the kid! Not the kid!" If you know the horrific events at the end of Series 1, the aftermath was that British Detective Karl Roebuck took six months bereavement leave and has since been working for six months in the Public Protection Unit, a unit specially formed to help victims of violent crimes. He's called in to work with Chloe, who is still in shock and not speaking. Chloe's parents were apparently taken to France, which is why Elise Wasserman is on the job on the French side. Elise and Karl are working together again, and their bonds of friendship and trust will be needed and tested. The kidnapping is just the beginning of the story, a preface, really. There is terrorism, sex slave market, marriage for sale racket, vengeance of a child and vengeance of an old adversary. And, last but not least, there is a mad Nazi scientist. I am not making this up. But that is incorrectly making it sound cartoonish and "The Tunnel: Sabotage" is anything but. It is complicated and it is riveting and you will be constantly guessing. "The Tunnel: Sabotage", which is Series 2, originally aired April-May, 2016. It has 8 episodes totaling a little less than 400 minutes. Picture is widescreen. English SDH subtitles are available on the episodes and the five Bonus Features. This and the first series, also recommended, Tunnel: Season 1 , are based on the original Swedish TV series, "The Bridge", The Bridge: Season 1 (Bron/Broen) . Bonus Features. There is minor repetition between features, but the last two, especially, are interesting: ...A..."The Making of the Tunnel: Sabotage" (10 minutes) Commentators include Manda Levin (executive producer), Ben Richards (series creator), Clรฉmence Poรฉsy (plays Elise), Stephen Dillane (plays Karl), William Ash (plays BB), Johan Heldenbergh (plays Fournier), Hannah John-Kamen (plays Rosa), Clarke Peters (plays Sonny), Ben Kracun (director photography) and Mike Barker (director). Barker comments, "There is a definite move in the second series, both in scale and style. I mean, there is probably enough action across 2 episodes as there was in, you know, a good half of the first series." ...B..."An International Production" (5 minutes) Additional commentators include Thibault Montalembert (plays Olivier), Laura de Boer (plays Eryka), Sashi Arnold (floor runner) and David Edouard (asst. location manager). Manda Levin: "We've got Americans. We've got a Dutch actor, Belgian actors. It's a really truly international cast." ...C..."The Evolution of Karl and Elise" (6 minutes) Clรฉmence Poรฉsy: "[Elise] tells Karl he's her best friend. I think he's her only friend, to be honest." And Manda Levin once again hit the nail on the head: "What I really value in karl and Elise is that there's not a 'will they? won't they?' There's no sexual tension between them, and I find that massively refreshing." ...D..."Anatomy of a Scene: Plane Crash" (5 minutes) Additional commentator mark Furber (flight coordinator). All the steps that went into making the crucial plane crash scene โ right in the middle between France and England. ...E..."Anatomy of a Scene: Fournier's Car Crash" (4 minutes) Additional commentator Lester Dunton (digital projection supervisor). They had to buy 3 of the same car to film this scene. Awesome detail of how they put it together. Highly recommended. Definitely R rated but we lost sleep binge-watching because we had to know what was going to happen next. Happy Reader Review: A Show That You Just Never Want To End - Great sophomore season for this show. I was bummed when I saw that it was only 8 episodes long. Got really bummed when I saw the 3rd season was only 6 episodes long. Got the biggest bummed of all when I heard that Season 3 was going to be the last installment of this brilliant show. The chemistry between the two leads in this show is some of the best I have ever seen. I love the writing, the directing, the secondary actors and actresses. IMO, one of the best shows ever made.

The Tunnel Season 2
The real plot is somewhat confusing and one is never really sure of who the good guys and the bad guys are. Elise and Karl are unusual but super. All in all, good stuff.

A 5-star season
Twisted ideologies, revenge, spies, terrorism, the perils of love, and the vulnerability of high-tech equipment all play a role in this second season of "The Tunnel." It starts as a kidnapping case but quickly goes beyond the boundaries of a straightforward police investigation when an airplane is later brought down in the English Channel killing everyone on board. Among those on board: A Polish undercover cop working on a human trafficking case, a Frenchwoman working on a documentary about international arms sales, and a judge with a reputation for going after human rights abusers. Is their presence on the aircraft coincidence? Or the reason it was sabotaged? Clemence Poesy, as French police Commander Elise Wassermann, and Stephen Dillane, as English DCI Karl Roebuck, are brilliant in their roles as the two chief investigators assigned to the plane crash case. While trying to track down the saboteurs who brought down the plane, they are each going through dramatic - and traumatic - events in their personal lives that threaten to make them less effective as investigators. Events that threaten to destroy even their friendship. That adds a level of tension to an investigation that is already pretty tense. A tip of the hat here to the writers who have not only fashioned a well-thought-out plot but who have also taken the time to create interesting secondary characters as well. Roebuck's wife, for example, is struggling with his infidelity in the previous series and - after giving birth to twins - is anxious to get back to work. Wassermann's boyfriend, tired of being shut out of her life, is unhappy. They are among the well-defined secondary characters in this series and they add a great deal to the overall story. The cinematography is well done and the direction of each episode smooth. Taking all these factors into consideration, this is a 5-star season well worth the time it takes to watch it.

DVDs worked properly, love the show
I loved the 3 different national interpretations of this story which originated in Denmark/Sweden (Bron / Broen), was followed by England/France (The Tunnel), and was copied again in the US/Mexico (The Bridge).

Had to own this one!!
My partner and I love this series! Although it is shown on our local PBS channel, following it in " real-time " can be problematic for us as we can't always hear all the words, or the subtitles may disappear before we can finish reading them. Sometimes we like to pause it & talk about a scene we just watched. None of that works watching it in real-time. So we bought both season one and season two to watch at our own pace. It was a worthwhile investment in our opinion. It will be fun to watch again in a few years time when we've forgotten how it all plays out. It is a dynamic-edge-of-your-seat geopolitical thriller, brilliantly acted, fast paced, and keeps your attention riveted from start to finish.

Griping drama. Excellent, but F-bomb is overused.
An excellent series of programs. Unlike the edited version that was shown on PBS, the Blue-ray version includes nudity and a lot of profanity. I am not a prude and don't mind the f-word where it enhances the dialog, but I feel the F-bomb was dropped so frequently that it became annoying. Almost every character used that particular obscenity so frequently that I found it annoying. Except for that one objection, I found The Tunnel to be addictive. Each episode ended in such suspense that I was impatient to watch the next one.

Another great series
The season 2 story line was good. Enjoyed it a lot and was kept focused on the story wondering about how the 2 characters from 2 different countries would get along with this crime. Looking forward to the next story line.
