I just finished “Raising Kids with Big Baffling Behaviour”. This is one of the most accessible, honest and compassionate books on raising/assisting children with trauma histories (vulnerable nervous systems) that I have ever read. The book is replete with the information necessary to understand the dynamics at play in “baffling behaviours”, ways to respond to these behaviours and, at the same time, acknowledging that there is no silver bullet. Honesty and compassion are the bedrock of Gobbel’s approach. When I read page 88, I almost did a backward flip. No sugarcoating, absolute honesty—in some cases, behavioural plans presented to parents, schools and organizations don’t address the core issues. Children are pushed ahead without the specialized help they need, escalating the behaviours as they age. We urgently need to invest in children and families. Gobbel’s book is so accessible that teens would be able to read it and gain an understanding of their own behaviours and/or that of siblings, classmates and parents (even teachers!). Excellent read.

Totally love the depth and practicality of the content . Very well researched. The author comes from a space of compassion , self love . Has changed the way I approach my relationship with my daughter

The best parenting book I’ve ever read whether or not your kids have big, baffling behaviors. (We had five sons over 17 years. I’ve read many!) Robyn doesn’t line up solutions for every age and parenting challenge (toddlers, teens, toileting, or tantrums) — it’s not that kind of parenting book. Instead, she uses metaphor to help us understand the neuroscience behind challenging behaviors such as why sometimes a child may respond to verbal directions while at other times our most kindly logical explanations result in meltdowns or shutdowns. She doesn’t just leave us with the science, she also gives practical tips, but again they are rooted in understanding kids’ brains (and our own). This book also feels like a hug. Robyn writes with such deep compassion for both children and their parents or caregivers that you can almost tangibly feel her belief in you and your kiddo through the pages. Highly recommend!

I wish I had read this book sooner. I read a review of the book, thought it sounded very odd with owls, possums and watch dogs and forget about it until my Mum said it looked good. I listened to the audio book and it changed the way my family parents forever.

It is a book that explains very well and with the approach of owl, watch dog and opossum it also shows a way of talking to your kids about it. It has some length in between and is very American but the content is really important and good
