At some point in its manufacture, the granite broke. It is expertly glued with no rough edges, but this particular item should have been sold as a second at a reduced price. Will replace someday.

EDIT: in just a few months not only has the pestle broke in half on its own, but now the top of the mortar has had a huge chunk fall. And we baby this thing. love this thing! We use it to crush meds so I need something smooth with just enough coarse at the bottom so the pills don't pop out. This is perfect! It's heavy, I won't be tipping it on accident. The pestle I worried about knowing it was longer than I am used to. It isn't thick though so it works great for me! As with any marble it's gorgeous and smooth. Love that it came with 3 small circles of "pad" at the bottom for more security!

I have used this to grind fenugreek; saffron and rosemary and this baby here works! Better than a grinder, I mean I took fenugreek and seeds and grounded it into a very fine powder. This was worth the money!

Beautiful and functional mortar and pestle. After reading reviews I was concerned it would be fragile or arrive broken but no issues after months of use. I only use it to crush eggshells (that have already been cleaned and dried) for gardening and homemade toothpaste so I don’t need to wash this out between uses but seems like it would be ok to wash by hand. Size and weight are perfect for my use and functions well. Looks attractive on my kitchen windowsill

Inner surface of the mortar is abrasive - as it should be - for grinding spices. Make sure you don't get something that's very smooth!It's a perfect size for my use since this is a "nice to have" product for me and I wouldn't want it taking up too much room.

I adore this and it makes cooking a bit more fun. My only trouble is the mortar and pestle are different shades

The product was intact when it was delivered. I was concerned about it been broken like some reviews said. It arrived on time and was packaged well. I prepped it before using it. I would recommend this product.

I have been trying to get my hands on one of these for years, but they are usually so expensive. I bought the green mortar and pestle. It arrived in perfect condition and now I don't have to fight with 2 spoons to crush my dogs medicine anymore, yeay! It cleans up easily and looks beautiful on my counter too!
