Learning to read can be fun too
It's Julia Donaldson, so you know it will be 5-stars before you open it. She is incapable, it seems, of writing anything for children that is not of the highest calibre. This book is intended to be read by young children at the early stages of their reading journey, and it is superb in that respect. It teaches them phonics, a key part of learning to read. It helped my 5 year-old granddaughter immensely. I don't know if Julia Donaldson ever reads reviews such as this, but if she does I would like her to know that she probably has no idea how much she helps young children to learn to read and to want to read. To see my granddaughter reading and enjoying reading is one of the greatest joys possible. Thank you, Ms Donaldson, than you very much indeed.

Not quite as good as we hoped.
Bought for a 5 year old to practise reading over the hols. Although we enjoy Julia Donaldson books usually, we found these a bit disappointing. In fact much to our surprise we preferred the equivalent level of the Oxford reading Tree range (Biff, Kipper etc). The Songbird books need the imagery more to explain the story and the written word can feel clunky sometimes. But it makes a change from Biff etc....

Pages stuck together
Poor quality printing and binding. Disappointing for the price. At least it is readable

Good for a beginner reader
My daughter enjoyed reading this book when she was in year 1; it's a good book for a 5 or 6 year old to tackle independently.
