Cyclists: Can you clean a bicycle chain without ripping the towel?

I would spray W-D 40 ,utilizing the small red hollow stem so you could take advantage of the pressure and direction to blow off grease, grass, mud, etc. Then the towel should do an OK job of removing the access from the chain. Hope this works for U.
