Wooden blanks like this are such a great crafty shortcut, especially in these days of acrylic paint pens which make decorating so easy and almost entirely fuss free. I also love Russian Matryoshka dolls so couldn’t resist this DIY set. You get a set containing 5 nesting dolls for £6.95 at time of review, which is cheap enough to take a punt and would also be a great inexpensive base for a really lovely personalised gift. The finish on these is good for the most part, though the middle one has some divots out of the wood around the join which is a bit of a shame though not unreasonable. Otherwise they all look pretty smooth and free of blemishes and splinters, with all of them fitting snugly together. One thing I did notice immediately was how big of a gap there is between the sizes. You could easily fit an extra doll in between each set but obviously that would change the price and also the leeway means you have a bit more freedom in how you decorate them and could even stick fabric, gems or other bits on without worrying too much about any additions interfering with their nesting abilities. They come simply shrink-wrapped in clear plastic so not the most protective packaging but again, these are a relatively inexpensive item so a gift box can hardly be expected. I haven’t decided how I will paint mine yet but very much looking forward to doing them as I think it will be great fun (I plan to use acrylic pens) and give me (or a loved one) a really lovely ornament to enjoy once finished.

This collage kit comes with a great set of colourful prints ranging from botanical illustrations to anatomical diagrams and painted tarot cards. They're definitely beautiful, and look like they're straight out of a historical manuscript! I love their aesthetic.
