Yes, it came ready to use. The ink pad was in it and it was inked up.

What are the years on this stamp?

I bought one in November 2021 and the years on mine are from 2021-2032 so I'm very happy.

does this stamp work on plastic?

None of the Trodat self-inking stamps work on plastic as the ink is water based.

Can i use black ink instead of blue?

Hello Amazon Customer, Great question. The RECEIVED date stamp (Trodat 4750) is sold with a BLUE/RED ink pad already installed in the stamp. Your date prints in RED ink and RECEIVED stamps in BLUE ink. You can purchase a replacement pad in BLACK ink and replace the pad so the entire stamp (date and RECEIVED) prints in BLACK ink. If you go to Amazon.com and put this code: B007WB9DHQ - which will bring up Trodat T4750 Stamp Replacement Pad, 1 x 1-5/8, Black - click on the blue words to order 1 for $5.79 or put the code: B01N778D7M in the search box to order a pack of 3 BLACK replacement pads for $10.99. FYI - the replacement ink pads also come in RED, BLUE, GREEN and PURPLE. If you want a 2 color impression, like RED date and BLACK message, the pads are also sold as DRY (NO INK) where you can ink the pads in any color of your choice - unfortunately, the only 2 color pre-inked pads are sold in BLUE/RED but NOT BLACK/RED.
