We have a rescue dog that is afraid to be lifted or picked up. Would this work to lift him in and out of the car? Small Sheltie

Yes it probably would. Product is very strong. My dog is 70 lbs. and has no use of all 4 legs and I am able to lift her with this harness.

how much weight does the straps support in an extra large size?

My dog weighs about 70 pounds and it supports her fine

This is likely a silly question but can the dog urinate with it on? Can't tell in photo & I might be fostering an injured dog very soon. Thx!

Yes they can. My dog was 17 pounds and I found the small too long for her. I had to return it. It is very well made and comfortable for you and the dog.

It will work to lift a dog. I have a dog right now that cannot use his legs. I have to lift him everyday to go to the bathroom. He weighs 60lbs and it holds him fine.
