No, the clock does not double as a squirt gun. Adding water to the clock activates the built-in battery to run the clock and alarm. It only needs additional water once a year or so.

We were very disappointed in this clock. I got it for my grandson and it worked for a couple days. Alarm never did work. A real fizzle. As for size, about 5"x5"

The clock is not backlit or lit at all. Be careful if using it in your car as you need to make sure the water levels inside do not go outside the printed (on clock) bounds. If one side goes dry the clock will stop working.
