Hard to find at a good price; but found it here (at the time I needed it)
Excellent quality. Was happy to find it here on Amazon at a good price when I needed to get more (after using up a bag I've had for 20 years). Burpee seems to be a good choice. I would NOT recommend buying anything more expensive than Burpee. And it's organic.

Must have for seed starting
Perfect for covering seeds that need just enough cover to germinate. Also great for moisture control.

This Burpee additive is so handy for potting and seed starting! It mixes easily into soil and helps with water retention, so my seedlings and plants stay happy and healthy. I love that it’s organic and makes my garden feel extra cared for. Honestly, it’s like giving my plants a little boost of love — they’re thriving and I couldn’t be happier! 🌱✨💚

Holes
There is small toothpicks size holes all around the top of the bag. Other than that product looks fine.

Great stuff for topping off itty bitty tiny seeds!
There is currently a shortage of vermiculite, so I was thrilled to find it for a good price on here. This is fine grade...perfect for lightly covering seeds that need light to germinate. This is not what you want to store dahlias. Overall, it's a good value and beats trying to crush larger pieces with a rolling pin. I've had lots of vermiculite, but this is the first time I've tried fine grade for horticulture use. Typically I buy whatever I can find, stick it in a Ziploc, and roll/crush it to death to get it so it's fine grade. There's always leftover pieces in it, though, that are too big and have to be picked out. This was used over tiny seeds that needed light to germinate. I put the seeds on the seed starting soil, and then sprinkle the vermiculite on top. The seeds germinated as expected. Note: you'll need a very low pressure water bottle so you can fine mist before applying heavier water, or the vermiculite and seeds will blow everywhere. One tip is to spray directly down on them at first to minimize the blowing, and then you can water like normal. Once your seedlings are up, you can bottom water. Highly recommend! The price was the same as all my local options, too.

Not Just for Plants—It's a Mushroom’s Best Friend!
I picked this up as a substrate additive to mix with my coco coir for mushroom growing, and let me tell you, it's a game changer (yes, I said it—deal with it). This stuff holds a ton of water without turning into a soggy mess. It's like the sponge of the mushroom world, except without the wet pants. When mixed into my substrate, it absorbs moisture like a pro, keeping my mycelium nice and hydrated without drowning it. I’ve never seen my mushrooms look so happy, and I’m pretty sure they’re silently thanking me for the luxury spa treatment I’m providing with this potting mix. If you're into growing mushrooms and want to give your substrate that extra oomph, this is the secret ingredient. Plus, it might just make your plants jealous. I mean, who knew potting mix could have such mushroom-growing potential?

Helps soil retain moisture
I use this vermiculite when starting new fig trees from shoots. It helps soil retain moisture much better and greatly increases my success in propagation. Increases time between required watering.
