Is this the made in Japan version?

Yes, it said so on the label anyway. This one cooks rice exact the same to what we eat in Japan. If you cook really nice grade rice, then you can trust the water revel line inside but I recommend to use slightly more water for cheap rice.

What setting would i use for Basmati - would it be the Premium setting - Umani? - many thanks.

Yes, I use the premium rice setting
