Angel Heart [Blu-ray]

Incredible film.
Someone I worked with years ago told me about this film and I have to see it but I put it off for years. Randomly I was watching Mickey Rourke films and remembered I haven't seen Angel Heart yet, so I decided to give it ago. It's easily one of the best horror/ Mickey Rourke film's I've ever seen. Mickey was absolutely electric in this also De Nero is on fine form. I was glued to the screen until the very end and let me tell you this film has one of the very best endings I've ever seen. It's a 10/10 film, a must watch.

“How terrible is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise”
Saw this in the cinema back at the time of original release and fancied revisiting it. There’s a sizeable hock of thespian ham in De Niro’s performance, and the ‘glowing eyes’ special effects were a tragic error of judgment. That being said, this is an entertaining and stylish piece of hokum with a nice little twist and, on the side, one of the finest Original Soundtrack albums ever made. In fact, skip the film and just do the soundtrack album. It’s dusted with snippets of dialogue and sound clips from key scenes to keep you on board with the main thrust of the narrative, and there are no skronky glowing eyes.

Not a very good watch at all!
I did not like this film, the plot and the acting is quite mediocre. Mickey Rourke is NOT very good, is acting and characterisation is very weak. Robert De Niro is always great in movies, yet not so in this film, the reason being his level in the film is so small, its like a cameo, which is disappointing, and when he is in the scenes the script in poor so he cannot be at his best, this role is not a great one for De Niro. Terrible storyline and a watch I did NOT enjoy at all.

A forgotten gem
A horror movie with an astonishing story line.... without looking to give a plot spoiler I will try and explain...Rourke is a rough and ready Private Investigator who is hired by De Niro (who revels in this role) to find someone who skipped out on a debt. This takes Rourke into a world of Murder, Black Magic, sex and corruption. The ending hits you like a thunderbolt and will make you want to watch it all over again.

One of a few 80's films that you should see.
A good film I'd recommend. Stylish, soulful, a little creepy and sinister, a perculiar detective story in essence, it is of course much more than that. For a 30 year old film it's aged really well and is still a treat to see. Musically interesting with a jazz feel throughout the film, a steady paced film that opens as the story develops. Ultimately a stylish detective story involving demonic possession that shows a world from another time, a must see. Alan parkers best.

An unusual combination of intelligent script and gory splatter movie.
This is a film which changes direction at frequent intervals. It starts in familiar Sam Spade-imitation territory but veers - quite subtley - into bloody murder, deep south racism, voodoo and devil worship. There are lot's of clues along the way to entertain the amateur detective viewer but they're not irritatingly signposted, the way these things often are.Don't be tempted to hit the Off button before the absolute end of the closing credits, and never eat hard boiled eggs with Robert De Niro. If there was ever a film which demonstrates the old cliche that it's what you don't see that scares you most - this is a prime contender.

In German language with English being an option
I didn't realise that the disc was in German primarily. it took a while to change it to English language sound. I should have looked closer at the product before buying but in the end that wasnt a problem.
