I do like the concept of fairy tales being translated from one language to another, however, this version of this concept may need a huge revision before publishing. The sentences translated from Russian make absolutely no sense to English speaker. So, I will not use the version provided, on contrary, this inspired me to do some editing instead!

The best method for beginner to read in and focus on original language, with total comprehension
I have been joyfully reading this Hyplern series in various languages. I find the French, Spanish, Italian books are very easy to follow. So I ordered two Russian books last year to try. But the Russian alphabet was difficult, so it didn't work out. Recently I went through the FSI FAST course, and finally knew the Russian alphabet. I didn't listen to the recording this time, as I usually did. I just want to go through the book. I did finish it from cover to cover, with a 95% comprehension rate. The progress is very slow (almost word by word), but it works! I highly recommend this as a good way to "swim" in original language. This interlinear method could be ideal if the objective is to have a deep comprehension of stories in original - it slows me down, and read line by line. One review below says that the translation is not native accurate. I think the translation is based on Google translation with some manual correction and editing - that is actually the beauty of this method: It forces you to re-read the original sentence and figure out the true meaning in context by yourself. The goal is total comprehension of the original text, so the word-for-word accurate translation is actually not preferred. So with this method, the "exercise" has been built-in with a natural reading flow.

Typos, incorrect translation.
I bought this book for my son who speaks very little Russian. Translation in the book is way off ( I speak Russian very well, so I know), plus I didn't like the idea that English translation is right under the Russian text, which doesn't give my son a chance to try to translate it. I had to return it.

Be wary of translations
The English translations are not accurate

Bare bones.
Very stark. Good price but you get what you pay for. Don’t expect any list of vocabulary words or explanation of grammatical points. There’s nothing.

As native, stories not supper exciting for baby to read

Initially very impressed with this method of reading,it's extremely quick to read through the stories. There's some ambiguity here and there which distracts from the story- if you don't understand the English you're not going to understand the Russian. It's aimed at beginners with a few hundred words under their belt. The stories are all simple. I wish it were a bit longer, but it's still a good way to reinforce your comprehension. I hope other authors adopt this technique - l prefer it to the dual language books which I've used before. The author makes it clear the text is from an app. Unfortunately, they haven't bothered to make the audio tracks (on the website) available which is a major omission. I've given 4 stars for the concept but potential purchasers should first consider the app.

I am beginning to learn Russian and wanted to practice reading comprehension and grammar through this book. I did not purchase this for leisurely reading or to learn about fairy tales. The following pros and cons may be subjective. Pros: - There is a picture for every tale. - The book covers traditional tales that may teach about cultural aspects. Cons: - The pictures are black and white and of lower quality. - Literal translations (word-by-word) that do not feel natural, even for a fairy tale. Some of the English translations were unclear in meaning. - Vocabulary is elementary, but specific to the fairy tale context. Impracticality of words gave way to loss of interest.
