Fellowes Powershred 53C, 10 Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder for the Home or Home Office with SafeSense Technology, black/silver

Bought as a replacement for an older and sadly broken Fellows shredder. Excellent shredder which fits a nice niche between occasional home and medium office use. I particularly like the three switches: power at the supply end, switch on the back and then another on the top. This is very reassuring safety measure. The shredding mechanism cannot be operated without it being located in position over the bin. I haven't tried shredding the max number of sheets; I'd rather take a little longer and not strain it, and it will wizz through 5 X 80gsm A4 at a time. It cuts and cross-cuts to a small size and the bin is a very good size. A very happy customer.

Very solid machine, easily deals with 5-6 pages at a time, apparently even with staples still attached, though I haven't dared test that yet. Probably the best shredder I have had yet, and I like the fact that it has an actual temperature sensor rather than just a time-out. Only reason for not giving five stars is that it needs oiling quite regularly, which is a chore and messy.

This shreds the paper in to small pieces and is not very loud, not sure if it will take more than 3 pieces of paper at a time, but it works fine for home use.

My original shredder died and I needed another urgently. The description of this one seemed to be ideal so I ordered it. It arrived next day! Brilliant! It is light, neat, looks good and does what is needed: to shred systematically all my home office accumulated paperwork. For me a great buy!

Neat and suitable desk side size. Has 3 minute run-auto cut off but so far not a problem - you can shred a fair amount in 3 minutes! My machine did arrive in a carrier damaged pack, the outer box was not filled and the makers pack was able to move around, its weight obviously ruptured the packing case.

My 58CS, which I've had quite a while, just couldn't hack it any more. The Safe Sense light came on any time a single sheet of paper went anywhere near the shredder, removed the paper and the shredder burst into life. it was OK as long as you weren't actually trying to shred. My wife's 58CS is fine, but its hardly used. So I ordered a 53C which arrived today. First impressions are: The box clearly labelled it as LIGHT DUTY. This does not appear anywhere in the Amazon description. It claims on the box that it is powerful and can shred a maximum of 10 sheets at a time. I found that as soon as it faced 2 sheets together it slowed down very significantly, seemed to struggle, and became more noisy. I had oiled it before first using it. I'm very confident that it will not shred 10 sheets at a time unless using light weight toilet paper. If the performance drops off any more then it will be going back. I wish i had spent more money and bought something with a bit more guts.

I purchased this shredder to clear out loads of old paper work in my home. Luckily this Fellowes shredder was on offer. I really can't fault it, it's pretty powerful and was getting thru 6 or 7 fairly thick paper bank statements at a time. I also likes the handle so that you could left the mechanism to remove it from collection container. This made it easy to empty the shredded paper. The mechanism didn't get that hot even after a fairly long shredding session. It also held a large capacity of shredded paper before it needs emptying. At the time of purchasing it was £49.99.
