Zefal Swan Road Bicycle Fender (Black, Rear)

Works well and keeps the mud of my back. Easy on and off if not needed. Definitely recommend for trails on wet days.

I was looking for something thin -something that wouldn't look ridiculous and overbearing on a road bike. Also wanted something light, and easy to take with you, to avoid giving it away for free. This is definitely it! Works as advertised in terms of stopping rain and mud. Tightens around my CF seat post with no shims in a matter of seconds and wiggles very little, if any, because it's so light. The parts are plastic, so I'm sure it's possible to break the mounting mechanism but this isn't your average type of plastic, it's more rigid and strong. You can use a hex key to modify the angle of the fender, a nice customizing touch. Plus, the screw/cap on the mechanism has a reflective ring around it for high visibility/safety. Would definitely recommend!

I am giving this particular bike fender four stars because overall I was very satisfied with the product. It is made of a durable plastic material that is well suited for blocking the dreaded racing stripe that can come from wet bike tires. Installation was a breeze – despite the Ikea-style picture instructions – and I do not anticipate any issues removing the fender when the rainy season hopefully calms down in the spring and summer. I live in Oregon. It rains a lot. Not only is it easy to install, but the user can also adjust the angle of the fender so that it perfectly covers the tire. Occasionally the fender moves from side to side and I have to re-adjust it to get it to completely cover the tire again. This is not a difficult task and it has not added any stress to my daily life or made me late for class. My only real complaint is that I had to remove my rear reflector in order for the fender to fit properly. This was only an inconvenience and since I have a rear bike light, I do not anticipate having any issues with this modification. I am by no means a bike expert – I only use my bike to get to and from class – so I am not able to provide an accurate review for someone who uses their bike much more than that. Nonetheless, this bike fender is a good investment for a very reasonable price, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a practical and cheap solution to their racing stripe issues.

I bought Zefal's fender as replacement for old fender I had on my road bike. The old fender (while also made for road bikes) was a bit too short, and would keep rotating slightly out of alignement while riding. Both resulting in my back getting wet on rainy days. I had a chance to try out new Zefal's fender on wet roads today. It worked very well, keeping my back completely dry. The seat post on my bike is V-shaped towards the back, and the attachment on this fender is shaped the same, preventing the fender from rotating. I had to remove rubber insert so that it fits around seat tube nicely (being V-shaped, the seat tube on my bike is bigger than classic circular seat tubes). The fender is just the right length and shape for road bike. It was trivial to install and adjust it.

I was looking for a removable fender for my road bike for the times when the conditions needed it as I do tend to ride some rail trails and gravel along with roads. I came across this and it's great as it's easy to set up and remove with the screw down clamp. It's also light and sturdy and long enough to cover the rear wheel sufficiently to keep your backside clean. The only minor downside is that my bike has a D shaped seatpost which it's not designed for as it is for a round post. Therefore it's a little more difficult to keep the fender aligned properly over the rear wheel but not a big deal and as long as it's tight it shouldn't shift very frequently.

I use this on long trail rides when there may be some muddy conditions. Quickly goes on and off the bike. (I didn't leave it on when I was carrying the bike on the back of the car.) *** Since this attaches to the tube that holds up your seat, it requires free space on that tube. If your seat is in the lowest possible position, you won't have room for this device. If your seat is fairly low, you may have to move or remove a rear reflector (and/or saddle bag) to make room for this. I'm 6'2", so was able to make this work by removing my rear reflector, and putting a tail light on the back of my saddle bag. My bike has disc brakes. If you have have rim brakes, they may increase the amount of space needed for this device (?).

I installed this fender to my commuter bike and it has made a huge difference to my wet weather rides. The installation takes seconds and can easily be put on or taken off if you think it looks dorky. I think it looks great if you tuck it low with the wheel, but that may be just me. A full fender would do a better job at keeping your feet and ankles dry, but this road fender does an excellent job keeping your back, butt, and thighs dry.

I wanted something that I can easily attach and this fits the criteria though narrow it shielded my back from 99% of the dirt my roadbike was spitting on me. Very efficient.

Works well and not too bulky like some others.

So handy to fit and keeps your back dry.
