'Ices' is a celebration of flight, levity and the conviction that you can leave Earth. You take wing in an aeroplane, you go to real places when you dream, you have out-of-body experiences, you get high, you lose yourself in someone else. In Lia's own words: "This recording session became a two year music and spiritual retreat with my psychic twin brother, Eliot. A private journey during which we abandoned old habits and familiar sounds. We got really geeky and experimented in our studio. We obsessed over sympathetic magic, 'Ancient Aliens', and the NBA. We allowed everything we loved to find its way in: Persian percussion, hip-hop beats, lo-fi, hi-fi, Pakistani pop, Link Wray, Jason Pierce, gospel, dub. We developed new systems; we worked with synthesis, software, and samples; we became producers. The Hudson Valley was home base, but I wanted to keep flying. I wrote songs in California, recorded vocals in Atlanta, and worked with Clams Casino in Brooklyn. For the first time, Lia Ices felt like an inclusive project with its own identity, not just a name." She goes on to say: "We will always want tribe, we will always want rhythm, we will always need music to guide us into our deepest sense of what it means to be human. So we hear sounds from all over the planet in this album. We devour so much music, and with this album we allowed ourselves to claim bits from all of it." Lia's stunning 'Love Is Won' from the album 'Grown Unknown' was also featured on HBO's 'Girls'.

Not as good as her first two albums
As a big fan of Lia Ices's first two albums I regret having to post a "fewer than five stars" review of this her third album. Indeed, were it possible I would give the album three and a half stars. Part of the problem is that the first two albums were so good, this one pales slightly by comparison. If you haven't come across her music before DON'T buy this album. Instead, buy either of her first ones; they are exceptionally strong. Not a single duff track. Remarkably good.If you have one or both of her first albums, do buy this one. You will find it interesting and not without merit. One gets the feeling that she was struggling for inspiration with the third album. But this can happen. The first track, "Tell me", is very average. And it has a grim African drums accompaniment which jars. However, it's not to say that there aren't good tracks on the album. The last one, "Waves", is particularly good. I played the track over a dozen times yesterday when I got the album. And I've played it four times this morning, and I haven't brushed my teeth yet!

Best LP since Kate Bush's Sensual World. This is amazing!
stumbled upon Lia Ices on an iTunes recommendation and wow! I listen to so much diverse music from zeppelin and Floyd but this is just put there! Sooooo different and soooo good. Nothing else is like it yet it is familiar, new, but with influences from clannad and floyd, with a very forward focussed sound. Think SOAK (who is fab) but deeply more complex and mature.

this is a less obvious Cd than the latest one but the quality is the same - excellent and highly recommended
A touch of ethnic mixed with a Cocteau twins influence, this is a less obvious Cd than the latest one but the quality is the same - excellent and highly recommended

I wasn't disappointed. One of the top 20 albums of 2014 ...
Heard a couple of songs from this album on the Internet and thought I'd buy the album and give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. One of the top 20 albums of 2014 for me. Recommended.

Sympa mais
Album sympa, tres folk. Moins bien que les deux precedents. Album plus joyeux mais moins planant que le precedent. A ecouter

Great artist - glad I purchased
This is a new artist for me but making the decision to purchase was based on all the positive reviews. I have to agree with everyone. Music is great - easy listening. Don't think there is one song I don't like but of course have a few favorites. Thank you
