How wide is the metal on each side, 1 inch or 1/2 inch plus paper?

1" approx similar to nonflexible tape on corners.

What kind of metal is used?

Not sure. Cuts like aluminum. Great product.

Does this product install the same as old metal cornerbead ?

Cut the length you need. Bend it for inside or outside corner as you require. Corners happen fast & easy. Otherwise works the same & you don't have to worry about bends or kinks.
