Question 1

Thickness of the ring itself?  I need it to be less than 1/8" . Most of the book rings at 3" are slightly larger than 1/8".

The thickness of the ring is 1/16 inch (.0625 inch or 1.5875 mm). This is for a ring that has an inner diameter of 5/8 inch and an outside diameter of .75 inch.

what is diameter? title says 1/2 " but technical details say different

The outside diameter is about 3/4." They are not perfectly round, so this varies slightly depending on how you measure. Inside diameter is roughly 1/2"-5/8" again depending on which way you measure. I, too, looked for ages to find this size rings and bought two boxes once I found them.

Question 3

The description says "rust proof," but when you zoom in, the product shown appears rusty.  Is the description of this product faulty?

I think I can see what you are referring to in the product photo. That is the way mine look as well and I think that is discoloration of the metal from the machining process -- the heat from drilling the hole and putting in the rivet. Anyway, not rust, but I can see what you are talking about. I think they are nickle plated which is where the rust resistance comes from. Now I've never had any of these rings exposed to the rain for an extended period, but they have gotten wet and never rusted. I make small notebooks with them which I carry everywhere and file away when full. Probably not truly rust "proof" but rust "resistant." Hope this helps. Peace!

Re: multi-purpose rings, 1/2" diameter, aluminum (leor09) - the title says "aluminum", but the description says "made of steel". which is it?

Definitely not aluminum. I'd guess very cheap steel.
