EIGHTREE Alexa Smart Plug with Energy Monitor, Works with Google Home

I previously bought four WiFi plugs from a leading brand, but as I started to plug them in, I found that their shape/footprint caused me issues by blocking or fouling on or around the socket; I returned them and bought four of these which have a smaller footprint, and they were £15 cheaper! I have attached a photograph of one of the new plugs being used in a socket that has two USB power outlets; the previous plugs that I bought blocked the USB ports, but as you can see, these are not much bigger than the plug itself and I can use the USB ports as normal. I was apprehensive buying a brand that I did not recognise, but with the free returns, I had nothing to lose. It turns out that these work really well; they were quickly picked up and installed by the SmartLife app, there was seamless integration with Alexa and they work reliably even at the furthest reaches of my WiFi signal. An added bonus, was that these plugs have the energy monitoring feature; I would not have paid extra for that functionality, but these plugs came with it at no extra cost. As a final point, four of these plugs currently cost less than just one plug advertised by a very popular, well-known brand; however, by contrast, these have smaller footprint and the added energy monitoring. Buy with confidence.

The EIGHTREE Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring is a great little gadget that does exactly what it promises. Setup was super quick — it connected smoothly to my Wi-Fi and synced with Amazon Alexa without any hassle. I love being able to control it with voice commands or from my phone, and the energy monitoring feature is a nice extra that helps keep an eye on usage. The compact design means it doesn’t block other sockets, which is a big plus. It’s been really reliable so far, switching on and off instantly every time. For the price, it’s excellent value and a simple way to make any device a bit smarter.

Easy set up. Work well

I really like these energy monitoring plugs. They are great. The first one didn’t connect at first, but that was because it was only seeing my network as 5GHz. I tried again and it connected on the 2.4GHz channel. I must note that this model is 2.4 GHz only, so make sure your network is not just 5GHz. I have tried a competing companies smart plug (Kasa Mini Smart Plug), and I had issues with the device losing connection to my router every other day. Up to now, I have not had that issue – I will update the review if anything changes. Aside from that, the app is great and helps me to monitor energy usage of connected appliances. Currently I have my Portable AC plugged into one and a small UPS plugged into the other. I may buy more in the future. There is only one thing that I wish could be changed. It’s very easy to hit the OFF button in the app by accident, I would have liked a smaller button option and maybe the option to enable a long-press for the ON-OFF function. Overall, the EIGHTREE Smart Plug is a great little plug that does its job well. The size of the device is handy too. I have used plugs in the past that have been quite large and have ended up blocking neighbouring sockets. This device is slender, and I don’t think I will have that issue.

These are by far the easiest to connect smart plugs I have used. I had massive problems with the Teckin brand i had bought before. The Eightree ones just auto-connected through the Smartlife app. As soon as you plug them in and open the app, it sees them and it takes seconds to connect them. They are compact and seem to be well made. The only thing to note is that sometimes when using alexa they can be slightly slower to activate than other brands I have had. Only a very small delay in comparison though and no issue for me. Hopefully they last as the Teckin ones i bought all started to fail within the 1st couple of years. Works well with teh Smart Life app when I set my Virgin router to 2.4GHz. I found it was easiest to enable both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and use the 2.4GHz on my phone to run the app to connect to this. Can always switch back to 5GHz afterwards. The Smart Life mobile app has a tendency to drop connection to a ridiculously bad and excessive degree but it's easy enough to turn off/on wifi which forces it to reconnect. As hardware products though these are great for controlling device both from the Smart Life App, or the Alexa App or my Echo Dot via Alexa. Been reliable so far, (month or two) and construction quality seem very decent. It is unbelievably useful to have the energy monitoring on a per plug basis which these offer when using the Smart Life app to isolate which devices are using the most power and just how much they are costing, on an ongoing basis.

These are amazing! Really easy to set up and not having to get up and down to turn lights or the fan off is incredible!
