will it take 7/16" glue sticks?

Yes. 7/16 and 1/2 are same thing…Standard Size

Will a regular craft glue gun work. The sticks seem to be same diameter

No. the glue gun has to reach a certain temperature to melt the glue. This glue is for professionals, a craft glue gun is for ... crafts. The proper glue gun is one made by fastenmaster. I have two professional glue guns, one regular contractor grade (which gets much hotter then your craft gun), and a fastenmaster. The regular contractor grade glue gun will not melt the glue sufficiently

What is the diameter of these glue sticks? The ad does not seem to be clear on this information.

Standard diameter, if I were to guess 1/2" but their sticks are longer than the standard and come in 40 and 80 lbs. Per sq. Inch.

How do you clean excess glue that seeped out? Just wait to harden and peel off like regular glue stick?

The glue gun I use (Fastenmaster) has very little to none that seeps out to deal with. Others that I have used I just wipped it off with a cloth while the gun was cooling down, not cold but cooling down.
