The mussels seem firm or tough. Is that normal?

Yes. Air-dried mussels have low moisture, which gives them a firm, crunchy texture. If your pet prefers a softer chew, you can soak the mussels in warm water for 2–5 minutes or crumble them over food as a topper.

My pet won’t eat them. What should I do?

Pets can have texture or taste preferences, just like people. Some love crunchy air-dried treats, others prefer softer textures. If your pet is new to mussels, try crumbling them over meals or softening with warm water to help them adjust gradually.

Do the mussels smell strong?

Air-dried mussels have a naturally rich seafood aroma because they retain their oils and nutrients. This is normal and not a sign of spoilage. Store sealed in a cool, dry place to keep them fresh.

Why are there small or crumbly pieces in the bag?

Mussels can vary in size and firmness depending on the harvest season. Light surface crumbling can occur during air-drying or transport, but does not affect quality or nutrition.

Can pets be allergic or sensitive to mussels or seafood?

Seafood allergies are uncommon but possible, just like chicken or beef allergies. If your pet hasn’t had mussels before, feed a small amount first and monitor as you would with any new protein.
