I honestly do not understand all the negative customer reviews. This book was recommended by a friend. I am glad we purchased it on a friend's recommendation; otherwise, reading all these reviews, we would not have gotten it.The book is well organized, and we found it very useful. It begins from a few sections on best naming practices, most fashionable names, and the baby names trends. Then, it switches onto the alphabetized index of boys and girls names. The boys and girls names are listed separately. It is very easy to use. A brief definition and history is provided for each baby name as well as alternative spelling and related names. Not all definitions are based on the Bible quotes, which we also liked. Although we are spiritual, we are not particularly devout. Therefore, we liked to be able to consider the origin and the meaning of the name even if it does not come from the Bible or Torah.I can't speak to some names spelling and pronunciation. We were not looking for something particularly exotic, just wanted some fresh ideas to stimulate our minds. We came off with 3 solid ideas, and intend to chose one of them for our baby. After using this book, we highly recommend it to other expectant parents, and feel comfortable recommending it to our friends and family as well.

I Bought this book for my niece who is going to be a first-time mommy. After looking through tons of baby name books, this one just stood out. First, it has the feel of a Baby Name Bible, with attached bookmarker and flexible pages that won't crease as you flip through the book. it has tons of information on choosing a name, and popular names from different countries, eras, cultures. It really is a treasury. I highly recommend this book. It will certainly become an heirloom to be handed down and shared throughout family and loved ones as families grow.

I had several baby name books and they were great to look through and to find inspiration. It also helped us to narrow down our first name choises. Naming your child is one of the most important gifts you can give them and is a responisbility that shouldn't be taken lightly.

I just received this lovely book and was delighted to see that it was not the typical baby name book--I collect name books for research and writing--.This is a well thought-out book with a lot of interesting, traditional, trendy and ethnic names for any new parent to marvel in and find a name for their baby. This book would make a great present for expecting parents. I highly recommend it it is definitely a lovely book and a keepsake at that.

We bought this book and the Baby Name Wizard. We were looking for a name that is not super common but wouldn't get the "huh" response all the time. This book is not for you if that is the kind of name you want. If you want to look up all the crazy strange names you have never heard of and you want to make sure no one else picks the same name as you, then buy this book. Also, this book did have more ethnically diverse names than probably most others out there. If you want a "normal" name then get something else like the Baby Name Wizard.

After searching far and wide for that perfect baby name book, I finally found it! This is a very unique book and fun to go thru! Lots of unique names in a pretty package!

I am looking for more unusual names and this book delivers names, alas it does not include pronunciation. I specifically purchased this title because pronunciation was mentioned in the description - but it is not included in the edition I received. I would return the book if shipping were not near half of my anticipated refund.I also purchased The Best Exotic Baby Names in the same order and that title is much more useful for my needs.
