Leather and Fabric Sewing Awl E8300

The needle would not stay in the chuck, when this happens the item can't be used. The needle has to be able to go through the material and without the needle useless. On top of that the wrench bent the first time I tried to use it. In short, I could not use this product at all. So it is hard to rate what could have happened or how well it worked, if you can't even set it up.

I've had sewing needles like this for 40 years. I needed one in a hurry. Cheap construction. The wrench bent on first use. I was unable to tighten the collet tight enough to hold the needle. This looks like a cheap knock-off of a fairly good needle I had years ago.I got a refund.

It looks like an awl should, but it doesn't perform like one should. That's saying quite a bit considering the extremely simple performance criteria for an awl. After all, it's really nothing more than a handle with a needle on one end. The problem with THIS awl is that: 1) one of the two needles doesn't fit the socket and simply falls out, 2) there is no hole in the needle socket through which one can put the thread, making use of the awl VERY awkward and difficult, 3) the thread that comes with the awl is so thin and weak it can barely function to hold things together.In short, this is a worthless piece of junk and I **strongly** recommend you buy something else.

The Tandy awl I previously had was a much better quality, more sturdy. I used for my leather bridles and halters. This one the needles keep pulling out of the awl and had a very hard time going through Velcro.

I disliked the fact that the quality control was not working because the hole where the thread goes through to th needle is blocked by what looks like a piece of metal welded over the hole making the awl useless.

I think this is more to my liking than Speedy Stitcher. This does a better job at handling the finer threads. The handle holds a selection of needles and the wrench pictured in the ad. The design is simple, but simple can be a very good thing. Finian Blake

This Awl works very well and the only one I found with two different needle size's for different thread thickness. It also comes with extra pin for piercing holes. I would buy one again.
